I want to make my own pair of skis

weastcoastI seem to not be 100% satisfied with skis out there. I’m an east coast rail rat who’s a sucker for edgeless, soft ass skis. What I want to do is make a 93-95 underfoot with a fully symmetric design. Maybe ever so slightly stiffer in the tails. In terms of rocker I’d like to make it a hybrid between nomad 95s and Vishnu wets. Have lots of aggressive early rise that gives Vishnus their distinct shape, but have the super flared up, evenly rounded tip and tail that nomads have. Honestly not a huge fan of the flat and pointy tips that Vishnus have, but I am a huge fan of their softness and springiness. I like the tip shape and effectiveness of the round, flared tips, and wider underfoot shape on the nomads, but I wish they made them with a tad more rocker, and fully symmetrical dimensions.


this is why I’m disappointed that they discontinued the DaNollies. Full symmetry. That being said, do any industry insiders here think I could just hit up Icelantic never summer or industries and have them make a few pairs of DaNollies for me? They’re almost the same as the current nomads, and I’m sure they have the old molds around.


Tldr I pretty much want someone out there to design and make skis for me. Hell, I know the guys with jetskis, Vishnu, and others do this, what’s stopping me from making a ski exactly how I want it?

CatdickBojanglesMy buddy has a press, he builds snow skates with it but its large enough for skis. I'm sure he would let you fiddle fuck around and make a pair if you bought materials. Shoot me a PM and I'll get you set up.

h3nry.I would try to see if there is anyone around you that makes skis. There is a guy at my hill who started making skis and has a press and everything you need for it. He mainly makes just like all-mountain normal skis but we ended up talking to him and he started to make some park skis. Since it's just like a one-man thing he can make whatever kind of skis you want as far as flex, dimensions, and design goes. If you find someone like this they could probably make you some completely custom skis. If there is a ski you already like you could send them the spec sheet and I bet they could just recreate it with some small changes

WoFlowzDon’t quote me on this but jetskis uses the old danollie mold and neversummer makes them in boulder for Jets. They got a bit stiffer tail still seem pretty soft in the front from what I’ve heard. Plus they aren’t crazy expensive. You could also be a edge lord having them

jompcockMaybe not relevant to you, but it would be cool for companies to sell 3 skis at a time for if one breaks like some manufacturers used to do. Seems more useful for a park ski where snapping/destroying a ski is more possible.

jompcockI think I'm gonna try to press an edgeless ski with a core that doubles as the sidewall.

BradFiAusNzCoCaI own skis like this. It works if you use the right wood. Mine has bamboo. It’s held up so far and I’ve beaten it to hell. Need to refinish and coat it in polyurethane again though. Rough snow scratches off the finish. Can see the contact points lol
