How to help my gf get over her anxiety?

been dealing with anxiety my whole life. I would say be patient and don’t dismiss the way she reacts over something and validate that she can feel this way. besides that maybe cheer her up. Even id you can’t relate because you don’t see it the same way just having someone that can accept the feeling. sometimes its just listening which helps a lot

Yeah the worst thing to do is invalidate these feelings, maybe just try to set up some days where you guys are at a really low key ski area and encourage some relaxing fun

I have a ton of anxiety so I understand to some extent. I think whem I was younger I was good enough at snowboarding and skiing that it didn't bother me too much but damn. Idk just cheer her on and do you best to keep it fun and keep her stoked. Avoid runs under the chairlift especislly when working on stuff.

Hopefully as she gets better it mellows out for her.

This is my wife’s first year skiing and I agree with what people are saying. My wife has a blast pushing herself, and I think a lot of women do a pretty good job of pushing themselves where men kinda thrive on peer pressure. At least I do. But it has been those times when I try to get her to go harder than she feels comfortable with that she gets mad and/or anxious. So yeah I’d say just help her go at her own pace and focus on trying to make it a positive experience for her so she wants to keep getting out there.

I don’t know where you ski but my fiancé gets super anxious and sketched out on crowded runs and I’ll literally lock up. The best days we’ve had together have been at uncrowded and smaller hills. Try that approach while she is learning. Both take a weekday off work/school and ski when it’s empty. For me, it’s like the park. I don’t like when 20 people are looking at me waiting in line uphill. I know some people thrive on that attention but I just feel rushed and anxious.

Seconding this, taught my gf to ski this year and took an extra hour or so to go to a tiny area on a couple weekdays.

Letting her borrow some nice/“cool” gear I had as a kid seemed to make her feel less self conscious.

Don’t try to push her terrain-wise. It’s a totally different dynamic than pushing a homie into trying a new trick. Butter around the greens. And bring some beers lol

Definitely get the feeling of being judged by others - on the hill or elsewhere in life - but skiing has always been my thing - it’s an individual sport, it’s for you, and it’s that escape from society’s expectations of you... start by not skiing under the lift and just helping her unlock that spark of joy to where going skiing is the escape from the rest of her anxiety and just playing and frolicking together without a care in the world
