What is “boosting” a jump?

I see this thrown around, is it just a sucker way of saying to pop ?

Whenever I say im "boosting a hip" or whatever, I notice that I kinda throw my body/arms/shoulders straight up with a hard pop

Depending on how hard you pop/don’t pop/amount of speed you take into the jump, you can change your trajectory through the air. To boost a jump is to take it high and far.
