The one that fits best. A poorly fitting helmet will be dangerous. Go to a store in person and try helmets on. Don't blindly buy online unless you absolutely have to.

What he said. MIPS is good, but it matters much less than fit. And the differences between different types of MIPS? I'd need to see a pretty legit study that showed they make any difference when you're wearing a beanie or a buff under your helmet. Basically for me, in a ski helmet, MIPS is an added bonus, but not a make or break feature.

Buying helmets without being able to try them on sucks, do your local shops not have anything? Even a bike helmet can help, like I have a Smith-shaped head in both bike and ski helmets, but not a Giro-shaped head.

Go to the brand's website, they should have a dealer-finder map there, figure out your nearest dealer and see if they have anything to try on. It's the end of the season so you could luck into a spring sale too.

I could only find one local store and they didn't have much left. Ended up picking up the last Large Giro Jackson. More than I wanted to spend, but I'm okay with supporting local.

It's difficult to say any helmet is much safer than any other helmet. Read these articles for some of the reasons why. If you're like me, you'll feel like you need a mechanical engineering degree by the end to understand all the back and forth on what makes the safest helmet. The anti-MIPS argument is if you have hair and are like most normal people and don't tighten the strap to the absolute max, your head will rotate anyway relative to the helmet. If you decide to wear a beanie under the helmet, you're adding another plane between your head and the helmet, which is further from how these tests are conducted.

Funny that you mentioned that, I actually do have a mechanical engineering degree. Graduated in 2016. I'll check them out.
