Should I upgrade my boots with cast or just save for new boots

Imho touring without a walk mode is ok for sidecountry or shorter tours, but if you do anything bigger you'll want the walk mode.
(I toured on heavy skis, adapters, and alpine boots when I was starting out and it worked but I quickly wanted a lighter setup)

Thanks man, how would you say a “bigger” tour. Something longer than a 30 min skin?

I was thinking more like 1.5 hours of skinning, if you are only skinning like 30-40 min for your lines you could probably get away with it (depends if you do a bunch of 30 min ski s though...)

Im in a similar boat as you but Im going to buy a new boot. Not sure how much you ski but boots get packed out and shells get worn out so spending 200 on modifying a boot is going to be more expensive in the long run than if you can get another boot and extend the life of both boots (assuming you keep your boots until they need replacing). Especially because alpine boots ski better than touring boots and a touring boots tour better than a modified alpine boot. The only time it really makes sense to me is if you have brand new boots and you only want to do short tours plus you send it hard enough to prefer how a true alpine boot skis.

The only problem I have with my Lupos is that the forward lean is 6 degrees vs. the Kryptons 11 degrees. I find them significantly harder to stomp big cliffs on them as they want to put me backseat.

Yea, it took me a little while to get used to the more upright stance. They have a “spoiler” you can put between the shell and the back of the liner that helps put you forward but really not the same IMO
