WoFlowzHave your tried progressing from a dance floor box to narrower box then try it onto a nice short not tall tube? That might help you
cwerryI've tried the big boxes but I can only get to doing shiftys at the very end, always end up half sending the jump turn and messing up. All of these replies make me want to learn though, and I skate and snowboard a bit so maybe it will come naturally?
WoFlowzOne thing I’ve done when coaching young kids is. Stand at the start of the box as some one comes in to hit it and have your hand up in like a high 5. The person coming at you will have their hand in a high 5 and when your hands hit when you come on the box it should turn you side ways. You can have one of your friends do this to help you.
Hopefully the little photos help explain it a little better. It’s a good way to get comfortable turning and sliding boxes sideways. Just find a buddy and keep trying until your comfortable sideways on a box. After your comfy with it try jumping on

eheathOnly if you wanna ruin your skis...
SuspiciousFishThere is wisdom here. If you want to learn rails, definitely snag some cheap old park skis on craigslist. Trust me, I busted in an edge on my brand new All Mountain skis screwing around on rails and it sucked so hard.
eheathI was joking.
MaimHelprails have a lower consequence once you get good at them and you can do so many tricks.
-oliveshow much for a personal portrait?
WoFlowzDepends on the size and photo I was thinking 30$ for a 9x11
ASAPCarterI feel like I’ve said this a lot on here recently, but I just started doing rails like a month ago. Most of my life I’ve been pretty scared of them and didn’t even really enjoy watching them in videos because I just couldn’t really relate. Anyways, big bear has a ton of rails so I finally just forced myself to dedicate a whole day to it no matter how many times I eat shit. I somehow convinced myself to commit and ended up getting both flat rails and tubes on the first or second try. Ever since then it’s literally all I ever do now and everyday I get better and better. I keep telling myself “why did nobody tell me how fun these were? What was I so scared of?” Like I’ve literally been skiing since before I could walk yet up until now I’ve avoided them like the plague.
I legit just spent a week straight skiing the same rail line bell to bell all day everyday, progressed a ton, and never once got bored of it. I promise you dude, once you finally crack the code and slide down a greasy ass tube for the first time it’s the best feeling in the world, like... better than sex lol

BLandz_Don’t give up, sliding rails is just advanced standing. If you don’t lean in any direction, maintain an upright posture and keep a little more weight on front foot youll get it sooner than later
theabortionatorYes, but you don't have to do anything crazy. Fuck, just sliding a baby rail to switch, afterbang the fuck out of it like it was a 40 footer and your pretzeled it.
Just have fun. Skiing's mellow and makes you feel things.

nmwninjartI love this.
I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to rails. This motivates me.
theabortionatorIf your mountain has a smaller park rock the fuck out of it. I started slacking on park for a few years after many bad injuries. We had a realy good small park with a lot of small rails and boxes in a line. Me and my buddy would warm up in there, remember old tricks, learn new tricks, get motivation for the day. I don't give a fuck how small that rail was, I rode away like it was a huge urban rail or mid slope in xgames. I don't even care what I looked like, i know what I felt like.
Just get after it. Take it small, keep it mellow and go from there. Sometimes you get that feel and confidence and want to do more sometimes you don't, but even sliding an 8' long box that's 6" high feels fucking great. Without even spinning on or off. There's something about it.
Keep shredding small sends are still sends. If it makes you smile, it's friggin worth it.
