Boot Ritual

The ritual of getting out of the warm car and putting our boots on is an often overlooked, but significant part of our lives. As we advance as skiers so to does our technique of putting on ski boots and getting the perfect snugness. It is truly a race against time in cold and windy conditions before fingers freeze so quickness, efficiency, precision, and mental stamina are required.

take off shoes/boots
Put on left and right ski socks

Put left foot in left boot, right foot in right boot

Left boot, then right:
Buckle toe buckle at loosest setting
Buckle middle buckle at loosest setting
Buckle top buckle at loosest setting

Left then right:
Unbuckle middle buckle and move it until the lever is at 90 degrees to the boot with almost no play left in the wire (full tilt) then buckle down
unbuckle toe and move so there's no play in the wire and the lever is at 90 degrees, buckle

Strap left boot
Strap right boot

pull cuff of pants over socks but above top of boots
if snowpants, pull down around boots

put on my damn mittens bc I can't feel my fingers

I was gifted a boot dryer that plugs into my car last season and it’s been a game changer. Toasty warm boots every time

Sometimes I ask myself is there even time for socks at all? I mean fuck it, do you really need socks in your boots? Laundry seems like an overrated social construct. Don't give in. Truly free the heal. Barefoot gang where you at

I’ve got the dry guy things for like $30 and they amazing. Boots are always dry, plug em in on the drive up and they are warm and easy to get on. Pretty great.

If you start at the toe first and work your way up you're wrong. Start up top and work down to the toe. Proceed to work your way back up in order to get it tight. Repeat pattern as needed.

Man I miss putting my boots on in the lodge in front of the fireplace! Boot heaters that plug into your car are mandatory now.

1) leave them in my car over night

2) throw them under vent and blast heat once I pull up in parking lot

3) squeal like a piglet when I put my feet in the cold boot

4) buckle up (except the broken one)

5) shred gnarb

i hit em with the ankle socks for the first time like 2 weeks ago..... NGL it was pretty decent

i like taking all of my gear out of my truck and lying it in the parking spot next to mine with the doors open that way there is a nice open area to suit up

boots and outerwear in the spot adjacent, skis and poles in the spot behind

My boot ritual is pretty standard. I'm very particular about my socks tho. I have a few pairs of extremely thin socks that I've been using for 6+ years now. If I wear anything thicker my feet freeze/fall asleep.

I had a coach growing up whose boots were so tight fitting he had to heat up his shells with a hair dryer, rub his feet with baby powder (no socks), put his feet in liners, then put his feet in the shells.
On a few occasions I have tried the baby powder without socks and absolutely loved it but it was definitely a lil cold.

You’re on a snowboard right? Why even boots at all? Just strap those bindings down on bare feet, the true “step in” system.

I wear adidas with holes in em or slippers on the way up, ain't tryin to get my ski socks wet before puttin on boots

This. I have sweaty feet. Combine that with leather/fur moccasins and my socks would be soaked before i got to the mountain. Pull feet out of mocs, let em airdry for a minute while i put helmet mask etc on in the car. Then throw dry socks on dry feet
