Replying to How can I use my skiing to help others improve??

carretta:
Hi all,

So the basic premise of this posting is this: i’m going to CO for a week or so at the end of March and my girlfriend is joining me for the first time. We ski a lot together over here out east and she’s making really awesome progress, but this is her first time out west and she’s still in the intermediate zone per say. We’re gonna be spending most our time at A Basin and I really wanted to explore their super difficult terrain, but I’m not sure yet that my girlfriend is ready to make that next step just yet. Now, I know it’s impossible to squeeze years worth of skiing into the second half of this season, but it seems like it might be worth my while. Everyone always knows that the fastest way to improve is to ski with someone who is better or much better than you, and I’m almost certain this is why my gf has progressed so quickly. However, besides giving her tips on turns and basic skiing knowledge, I’m hardly an instructor- most of the time she’s watched me go down the run as opposed to me watch her. (not to say I don’t lol) Anyways, does anyone have any ideas as to how I can continue to us my skiing to help her? Lately I’ve been encouraging her to try and follow my line down the run or at least and try keep up, but is there anything else I can do? I had seen someone on here recommended that you have a friend follow your tracks in the snow, but that doesn’t work too well when it’s tracked out. If anybody has ever attempted to accelerate someone’s progression by trying something similar to this I’d love to hear what you have to say!!

(I don’t want to sound cocky, cause I’m no professional, but there was certainly is a large skill gap between the two of us and it would be dope to see some of my skill rub off on her, or anyone for that matter really. I think we all can agree on that:)
