Switch spins

I have recently been trying to learn switch spins (5’s and 7’s) but I catch my tips on the takeoff. I feel more confident looking over my right shoulder but I spin to the left. Any tips on how to get more confident looking over my left shoulder?

To get more confident just spin that way as much as you can. Liquid courage helps as well

Ughhhh never mind.

I wrote this huge thoughtful thing about how you are ambidextrous but don't realize it and need to crosstrain that idea and it will unlock the body awareness for you to spin switch...

BUT THE FUCKING APP CRASHED WHEN I TRIED TO POST IT

Practice riding switch on regular runs looking over the left shoulder. I had this same issue as you and would just blender everything (lazy way to deal) but then I was handicapped for switch spins onto rails.

Take the time and learn the proper way

I have the shoulder problem and I just spin the same way switch. You learn it’s a cool problem to have because it’s more comfortable to spin opposite switch than Opposite forward

I look over my right shoulder as well and learned how to spin right switch when I was young without realizing I was spinning the other way. Years later when I did learn to look over the other shoulder learning how to spin left came easy because that’s my natural direction. Ended up being better at spinning both ways switch than forward

Yeah same. Forward right is by far my weakest direction but i landed my first right 5 last week! I practiced switch 3s both directions for an entire day once and now I feel very confident on them. I get sketched out hauling into a jump looking over my right shoulder but once i set the spin it feels fine. It took me a while to even be able to look over that shoulder without slowing way down but as with everything in skiing, repetition is key.

Sounds like you need to practice switch riding so you can look over either shoulder comfortably. I became infinitely more confident hitting jumps switch after learning to carve switch and really turn my hips to open my field of view down the hill. It also helps with spins. A switch 5 is barely more difficult than a 3 since you are already hips open and looking over the shoulder when you carve off the lip.

Does carving help? I find that if I don't carve I catch my tips less but I might just be more comfortable spinning straight rather than carving.

Not really but a switch carved 3 looks cool , sounds like your popping like your skiing forward which pushes your noses down, make sure your popping correctly for switch, make sure the timing of your pop is right as those tails hit the lip and then spin
