How do I lose fear?

Hey guys! I wanted to ask NS how you overcame fear? Fear for crashing, hurting yourself etc etc. What have you done to start progressing and stopped being scared?
I really enjoy riding park, but the only times I have actually managed to overcome my fear for a trick or a jump is do have a few beers or be hungover. I wanna ride park all the time not just when I’m drunk or the day after ya know.
so please, help a brother out with a few tips!

I say ride with some homies. When I’m with my friends and I see them doing crazy shit, I feel like why shouldn’t I try it.

Just go for that quad man. Don't worry about progressing through the basic tricks at a fair pace. Stop being a pussy and chuck that quad. Overcome your fear.

Honestly. I used to be deathly scared of metal 2 years ago. Now im hitting any fuckin kink any size. any ship as long as its grindable. You just have to hit metal shit a ton. Be diverse and dont think of the fear. think of hopping on the rail and looking to the end of the rail. Now with jumps i have no idea. Im a pussy when it comes to that I dont spin over 5 or 7 and down invert whatsoever.

Overcoming fear is a skill just like anything else - the more you do it, the better you'll get!

Walk yourself through the worst-case scenario. Is it actually likely to happen? If it does happen, is it actually all that bad?

Finally, what do you need to do to avoid the worst-case?

If your answers to those three questions are "yes","yes", "I don't know", then sit this one out.

Otherwise visualize then send it. Don't drop in until you're committed and once you've committed keep your mind blank. Practice with the slightly scary stuff before moving on to the scary stuff.

That's my two cents anyway... hope it helps a little.

Free bonus tip if you're scared of a new jump and don't know the speed just ask someone on your crew if you can follow them in

The way I overcame a lot of my skiing related fears was just learning how to ski switch fast. idk why but it really makes you feel in control when you get good at it.

Having friends that know how much peer pressure to give is very useful. I wouldn't say I black out going into a trick I'm afraid of, but sometimes I'll be like "one more straight air" before I drop and then actually do the trick. You still need to commit, but it alleviates the feeling that everyone is watching and expects something cool.

I was gonna put that as a joke, but it actually holds up haha. Fear is part of the game and overcoming that fear is what makes skiing sweet. I visualize for a bit, go a little faster than I think I need to on in-runs, and then kind of empty my mind to let the trick (or whatever) come to me.

Start riding bikes. Once you fall on dirt a few times and see how it hurts then when u go back to snow its not as bad lol

Yeah i like to try new things unannounced. I feel like there's less pressure and if i pussy out last second, no one will know. But if you do it, everyone gets so hyped and the anticipation of that pushes me thru any fears usually

UPDATE:

Took most of your advices and managed to throw a frontflip in a small jump, did a bigger jump, going over to a black jump as soon as it opens just because I need to stop overthinking all of the things that might happen.

Yeah I feel you. I hit my head on a downrail right when I was starting to be okay at them and I wasn't able to bring myself to hit another down rail until the next season

1) crew helps a lot. Like so much.
2) I grew up in a snowless state and I always loved skiing. So I would practice on my skateboard/longboard every night. Working on rail approach, slide, and exit. It really solidifies muscle memory if not for just knowing how it feels. It’s always a bit more slippery on rails but I can fall back on my muscle memory.
Edit: trampoline too. I had a tiny shitty trampoline in my back yard but it helped a ton with muscle memory.

I've got more experience rock climbing, but I think it applies. You don't lose fear (and you shouldn't) because it stops you from hurting yourself. If you're prepared then, then focus on performing the task (how am I carving in, where am I going to pop off the lip, etc.) and trust yourself. Get immersed in doing, not doubting. Fake confidence goes a long way, as long as you know you are ready for what you are about to do. Otherwise it's dangerous.

like others said, get depressed then you won’t care if you get hurt, although it also fucks with your motivation to ski. nah fr though riding with friends is good, watching them and others hit the feature, asking for tips, and i found just being in a good mood makes me try shit. like i ski so much better when i’m in a good mood.

One of the best things you can do is find a local pool or trampoline to practice on. Even jumping on a tramp regularly will help. Humans were generally meant to stay on the ground and flying is not exactly a natural thing for us. The more 'Air Sense' you get the more comfortable you will be floating in free space and it will take the fear down a lot on park jumps.

This plus it also applies to any summer time action sport as well bmx, aggressive inline, skateboarding, scootering whatever. When you fall on asphalt and scrape the shit out of yourself falling on snow feels a lot less scary lol
