Think I tore my MCL, any advice?

Took a heavy hit to knee today, can barely walk and I’m pretty sure in an MCL strain/tear. Anyone here have any experience with this injury? Any rehab advice?

Go see a specialist if you think you damaged a ligament, sooner you know the real problem, sooner you can be on the road to recovery. Vibes for a speedy recovery!

Get MRI! my xrays + initial doctor meeting proved pointless and a waste of time/waiting

@Twig 's thread on knee stuff really is good advice.


My monday (15 days after hit) MRI showed MCL took a beating, but no surgery needed, dislocated kneecap something + bursitt




I took the hit(twist), now 2,5 weeks ago, and I can walk'ish again but not stairs quite yet, for the first 9-10 days life for me was.. shit, no way of getting around without crutches, couldnt sleep etc, then suddenly better on a very steep curve.

While you wait RICE the shit out of it. mRI is better diagnostically when the swelling is less. Sometimes they will even make you wait to take one because of it.

my best advice is to go to a good sports orthopedic office, get an MRI, RICE and see what a dr/surgeon suggests. I had full ACL and partial meniscus and while I could eventually walk on it (and had to delay the surgery thanks to Covid) I knew my knee was totally messed up compared to my other knee. Finally got the reconstruction and looking forward to rehabbing for next season and getting back out there. Skiing will always be there for you, don’t risk making the injury worse without an informed decision

I just did the same thing. If you're feeling pain on the inside of your knee it's likely MCL. It was super hard to walk first 3 days but it's mellow out now. Luckily MCLs heal relatively quick. It really depends on the severity of the injury though. Grade 1 is just a little sprain, you're golden in 2 weeks. Grade 2 is a partial tear (what I got), golden in 1 month. Grade 3 is a full tear and may require surgery, a few months before it's good. A good spots medicine doc goes a long way. MRI is the sure-fire wat to get a diagnosis.

My dad delayed having a knee reconstruction for the longest time. During the rehab, he was saying he shouldn’t have done it.
Now that all is said and done, he is so glad he did it. It allowed him to actually ski with me again and not have to call it due to knee pain. I’m really thankful for that.

If It's swollen you probably got problems otherwise you could be ok but take tge advice of above posters and get it checked out.

like said before, just get instant MRI, dont wait.

I can ski HARD again on piste now btw after my injury! I can't quite do jumps or rails as much, and offpiste still kinda upsets it.. but yay none the less
