I never got to ski Hellbents back when they were around (and had zero justification for doing so anyway) but they had a cult following right? I've heard of people (even Lonely) skiing em on midwest hills and shit and the other day I saw a guy on insta skiing em pretty well in park for kicks. Which is obviously crazy af for a 132 underfoot ski. What were they like and how did they perform in each type of condition (piste, crust, chop, trees, pow, etc.)?
Big, burley, heavy, floaty, boats. They’re some of my favorite skis ever but will buck you if you’re not paying attention. Super fun on powder days but not for the average Joe.
I still ski mine from time to time if it’s nice and deep outside.
They were absurd. I skied the last version before they killed it off (which IMO also had the best graphic). I skied it on a groomer day because I just had to get them on my feet, and they were absolutely flappy noodles but were SO much fun. I bet in pow they were incredible, but on groomers I had to resort to pretty much sliding around and being a hooligan. If I could find a pair I’d 100% buy them they were one of the best skis I’ve ever ridden. So soft, so flappy, but so much fun

And yes...I’ll agree with this. They are absurd in all the best ways possible.

they were so fun. i remember going to the local shop as a kid and saw a pair of hellbents and we used to be amazed how soft their flex was. i knew i had to get a pair but i was so small and more into park that time so i didn’t get them. then a few years ago i broke my only set of skis and asked every one i knew if they had some skis i could buy and one of my friends was getting rid of his pair of hellbents and he sold them to me for 50€. that year i did everything on a pair of hellbents and i’m happy and sad that i don’t have to use them for everything. i’ll never sell them even if i don’t ski them i. the future cause i always wanted a pair.
Big floppers. One of the first really good pow skis, and they had a cult following as a park ski, which is hilarious because they were super heavy, soft, and fat as shit. Watch Idea to see Pep and Mahre rip park on them.
I have a pair just rode them again this weekend. They are insanely heavy, insanely soft and insanely fun. I love them in slush but there is a learning curve to riding them definitely not an easy ski to get on and haul ass right off the bat.
Also whatever base K2 used on them is one of the fastest and best bases I've rode.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying them. They were wayyyyy too noodly for me at high speeds - those tips are so floppy I couldn’t charge like I wanted to. But I agree, those things rip in the slush.

Yeah dude the noses literally slap the ground at just about any speed hahahaha
I had the 1st year 122s, still one of my favourite skis despite how soft and rockered they were. They were actually fairly heavy and damp so rode a lot smoother than the flapping tips would suggest in any soft snow. I even rode them in a freeski comp back in '08 haha (not recommended).
