Lift Roller Grease Ruined My Jacket

Was riding north ridge lift at Killington on Saturday and noticed that a good amount of grease from the lift rollers had fallen on me, staining my jacket pretty badly. Talked to an ambassador at the bottom and they sent me to the ticket window. The guys there told me that normally they’d clean my jacket for me but can’t because of Covid. They were super rude and unhelpful. Gave me a $10 voucher to try and “brighten my day” and basically told me to fuck off. I emailed Killington customer affairs but haven’t heard back. Has anyone had this happen to them at killington or elsewhere? What did the mountain do to make things right? I feel like they owe me a new jacket.

I've had this happen on the same lift. The stains went away and the jacket was a pretty light green color. It will probably come out with a good cleaning

I'm kinda surprised you got anything at all out of them. I always thought you were on your own with the lift grease since not much can be done about it and by riding the lift you agree that grease might land on your clothes.

They do not owe you a new jacket. You know they need to grease the shiv wheels. Sorry some snow melted and mixed with the grease and dripped on you. A simple solution would have been sitting on the outside of the chair rather than directly under the lift cable.

Okay so every time it snows and the temperature gets close to freezing or they make snow the night before on a trail near the lift and it warms up or on any rainy/super wet snow day you expect the mountain to buy a replacement jacket for every singe person sitting in the middle of the chair that day? Bring a trash bag and stick it over your head next time. Or maybe when your in the lift line position yourself so you end up on the outside of chairs?

This. Grease is runny at 4C, so you should avoid that lift on warm days.

i can actually help. At work, we have coverall detergent. Its alcohol based and removes grease pretty well. If its a cheaper jacket, it will be fine. Might not get it 100% out, but could save your jacket

First off, they don't owe you anything for this. You can also prevent staining by not touching the grease while you're on the chair and using some snow to soak it up once you get to the top. Attempting to wipe it off rubs it in and causes the stain. Its a real bummer but there really isn't much the resort can do

Resort chili fries made me shit myself and now there is big brown stain on my pant. Talked to ski patrol and they told me to get lost. Very rude. I feel like they owe me new pants and more chili fries. Pls help

Riding lifts in the rain best to avoid sitting underneath the cable. Even in the snow beliw youll see black drops in line with the lift cable at each tower.

It sucks but they're not going to buy everyone a new jacket any time that happens.

Just kinda part of it unfortunately.

I would maybe take a look at your own coffee.

It's grease. On a jacket. Won't affect your performance and it's unavoidable. It's not that hard to clean out and you could put protection coating on your jacket.

Would you rather have the lift fail, or spend 20 minutes cleaning off the grease? Or would you just rather complain?

I mean, some people are acting like he should be stoked that his new jacket has grease on it. Well they don't owe him a new jacket it's not that crazy for him to be bummed. It's like when you get new skis and hit a rock and fuck it up right away. It happens, it sucks, the mountain doesn't owe you new skis, but you shed a few tears.

yeah I mean they don’t owe him anything but why not give him a beer or plate of fries to cry into. Seems like good customer service. Obviously upsetting if it is a expensive jacket and was kinda a shock to him. Chair grease is unfortunately just a part of life

When I was instructing down under, we had some greasy j bars and red spyder uniforms. Aussie rain/snow + grease = looking like we shit ourselves. It looked terrible.

I work guest since at stowe a few years back. We're would pay for jackets to get dry cleaned and then they were fine. Just get it dry cleaned yourself.

This stuff works really well at washing waterproof jackets and pants.
Also most local ski shops sell nikwax. Amazon was just the first link I clicked.

i have a brand new oakley jacket that was SUPER expenive and i got tons of grease and im super pissed cuz idk how and if i can get it out. yes i know that theres nothing the resort can do and atleast i didnt complain like a karen i just grew tf up and ill deal with it

Spray some OxiClean MaxForce on those stains and your troubles will rinse down the drain(s)

I'm a poet and I didn't even realize it

Pretreat the jacket before washing and check to make sure the stain washed out before drying. If the stain is still there after 1 wash, do the entire routine again

This happened to me as well, both this and last year, wasn’t happy, but it beats sparks or grinding to a halt, didn’t ruin the jacket either, still keeps me warm and dry, plus the grease helps slide rails on me ribs
