With everyone trying to get away from the crowds, backcountry skiing and snowboarding are at an all time high. Be careful out there.
These videos below are a good starting point to help give you knowledge about navigating avalanche terrain but they aren't the ultimate answer. Get the gear and take a class before going out there. Make sure you and your friends not only have transceivers but know how to use them. Follow your local avalanche center. Make smart choices. Be safe out there!
Know Before You Go
"It doesn't matter if you've made thousands of good calls, all it takes is one bad call, and that's one too many.
Some days the mountains are screaming get out of here, and some days the mountains are going come on in"
- Jeremy Jones (Big mountain snowboarder)
Website also has links to various Avalanche centers. Find the one in your area and follow it!
A Dozen More Turns
"I have yet to be on a backcountry day, regardless of big turns or little turns, that I didn't come back fulfilled with enjoyment of just being out there"
- Sam Kavanagh(Avalanche Survivor)
