Helping others with mental blocks

ITT I'm not asking for help on how to overcome my own mental blocks—I want to know what experience you have with helping others to do so, especially those newer to freestyle skiing.
For example: trying to get someone to attempt a backflip when they are capable. Are you supportive? Do you get them riled up? Do you approach it with them logically? Maybe just call them a pussy?
What do you say to someone to help them overcome their own mental blocks?

The best you can do is either lead by example, or help them get into that space and amp them up for it. I think everyone has that moment where you just know you can do it, even though you've never done it before. You get a little nervous, but you know you're gonna do it. Best you can do if they're in their own world is leave them alone to get amped up for the trick. If they're talking, hype it up!

Hit them with your ski until they do it. Also compatible with poles.

But seriously, just being supportive and comparing what they are doing to other things they have done is always helpful.

Do the trick yourself if you can and then just hype them up. "I've seen you backflip on tramp you have them on lock" etc.

That said last time I convinced someone to try a backflip they got wrecked.

I think the main thing to emphasize when hyping someone up is that they are 100% capable of doing the trick. I find that doubt is what lead to under-commitment. For me at least, I'm pretty logically driven so I usually try to explain logically why they can do the trick.

For example, when I was learning backswaps I though of it like this: I can easily do back 2s, flatground 180s, and hit rails both ways. If I can do each part of the trick plus a "prerequisite" trick (back 2), I can do a backswap.

I like to think of it this way and help others in the same way because I find that when you're scared right before dropping in, you completely forget that the trick you are going for is completely within grasp and you're not guaranteed to eat shit.

Pretty much just reassure them that they can do it but don't just give them the generic "you got this man!!" Actually describe to them why they can stomp the trick.

I would add be a good spectator. Cheer them on, set up the camera; make them feel confident.

Totally agree with the staying quiet part. After giving them either the reasons they can or hyping them up for a sec I think it’s important to let em be and think for themselves and like you said, fight the fear.

The 3 second countdown can be a real good one. I've seen lots of dudes huck their biggest cliffs yet on the strength of that and I myself stomped my first switch backy after my buddy gave me the 3... 2...1!!! However once I was skiing with this dude I didn't know super well and he asked for a 30 second countdown to hype himself up for High Dive at revy and that didn't end well.

Id go at it gently, pressuring somebody to do something by calling them a pussy, etc. can kinda fuck with them. Be reaffirming that they are capable and hype them up in a positive way, tell them they'll feel amazing if they do it and tell them that they are the shit.
