Bro why would you move here when you live in Canada? Ffs just enjoy your own country, besides whistler is better than 85% of everything out here, you have universal healthcare and some day your dollar might be worth more than ours.

Oh rad, idk shit about that field but if you’re gonna move west have 2 of the 3:

- a job already set up

- significant amount of money saved

- expectations that have been lowered

if you're compsci then you've got more opportunities for working remotely than most any other profession, you could get a remote job and move out, or just move out and then work on finding a job. idk where to recommend to move to, but figure it out and do it.

Just work remote and go anywhere

In terms of remote working potential you are in the right field. I'm a statistician, so obviously I write a ton of code, and I am able to work remotely. Not all computer science/coding type jobs are remote, but if you want to live in the mountains and have a typical day be working from 6-10 am, skiing from 1030 to 230, then working from 3 to 730 or 8 you are in a field where you might be able to pull that off.

I don't live in the mountains, I live in Newport Beach, but I get a 3 day weekend at Mammoth every other weekend, two full weeks a year at Mammoth and I can often surf in the middle of the day. I actually just surfed 36th street in Newport. If you develop a good skill set and have some things break for you it can be done. In this day and age people have finally started to figure out that being in an office all day is simply not necessary for many white collar jobs. That is a good thing. I actually have a fair number of friends that work remotely. I was in an office for a number of years, and it would take a REALLY great offer to get me to go back. I was one of the lucky ones, I never had a commute longer than 15 minutes, and it was still a nuisance. I would be sitting at my desk writing code or doing a data analysis thinking 'I could be doing this at home and just come in for meetings.' The one drawback is that since so many people work remotely now the surf is more crowded during late morning mid-week sessions than it used to be. I have only been working remotely for 4 years, my buddies who have been doing it for 15 say that things have really changed.
