What the fuck are you doing? Like how do you work from home?
I'm about to do an entire academic year in 3 months over the summer and I can't work from campus cause it's shut down. Super nervous, not really great at the whole self discipline thing, especially from home.
So like how and what are you doing since everything is online? Do you guys have a work space set up at home? Do you go somewhere to watch lectures/study? How do you stay cozy and sane in front of a computer for 8-12 hours per day?

Also shout out to everyone approaching finals in the next month. I believe in you!

Tip number one is have a space set up that you go to do your work at and only do work at, it makes it easier to stay on task and you’ll associate that part of your house with being productive. Also making sure you’re on top of all your assignments and lectures is key because it’s super easy to say to yourself that you’ll watch it later or something and you never do. Staying motivated when you’re the only one pushing yourself is the hardest part and there’s not much you can do besides grind it out

To be honest it’s been way easier than being there. Probably because everything is online and the professors have to make some concession. I have a shitty laptop and a table. Nobody bothers me, I do my work, get high as fuck, go lift weights in the basement, go skate whenever I want. I don’t have a roommate coming back retarded drunk, coked out, blaring shit on the TV at 3:30AM the night before an exam, or leaving greasy pizza boxes to go rancid for weeks. All I have to do is complete the online assignments. The testing environment is gone, I always have access to the internet if I need it. I just sit down at like 3pm and make sure all my shit for the next day is turned in. No more rushing or doing assignments in the class before they’re due. I’m really enjoying all the time I have.

I’m so glad that I’m not a student during this. Like 75% of my coursework my final semester was hands on and lab based and I definitely would not have succeeded otherwise

Have lived at home for tjeclast 2.5 years of college to keep school and home life seperate. Go to class early in the morming and spend the afternoon in tje library doing homework until its done. Go home and not worry about school. Tjis seperation was great until and month ago. Best thing I've found is to set up a desk in the basement away from everything else. Not close to the usual seperation but it kinda works. Also, you are more productive in the mornings so if you can get in the habbit of waking up at a resonable time and getting right to work it helps a ton.

It’s been hard not to procrastinate. For me it felt like spring break just didn’t end. I’m adjusting to the different routine though it just takes time, and having a separate space to do school stuff in is key.

I work from home and basically was going to say exactly this. Having a dedicated space is huge.

Yeah I'm pretty intimidated. I'm supposed to have 16 clinical hours per week but obviously we can't go to the hospitals right now so they are all gonna be simulations (which are pretty much useless if you ask me) so I'm gonna be sitting wherever staring at my screen for 16 hours a week to replace clinicals and I'm just not super stoked about that lol.

Honestly, I hate zoom for academic purposes. We had an advising meeting via zoom and the screen constantly switching from person to person and audio levels changing... it threw me off every single time so I'm praying to god our lectures on not via zoom otherwise I'll never be able to focus enough to process the info. I'd rather watch a high quality prerecorded lecture but I don't make the rules haha.

Gotta set up a routine for yourself so it at least feels like your breaking your day or work up into productive chunks to get things done

My Quarintine daily routine:

12:00 pm- Wake up and shower/ get ready

12:30 pm- make and drink an entire pot of coffee in my kitchen

12:45 pm- begin online school work

3:00 pm- finish school- have a drink

4:20 pm- finish class required readings- smoke a J, have another drink

6:00pm - make din din- have 2 more drinks

7:00 pm- check in on my animal crossing village- finish the 6 pack

9:00 pm- smoke another J and hangout with my roommates- usually switch to hard alcohol by this time

10:00 pm- 2/3:00 am- drink until about to pass out- smoke a chop and then pass out

12:00 pm- wake up again- rinse and repeat.

I have no motivation to do anything and it appears that a lot of my teachers feel the same way. I have one maybe two Zoom classes per week but I haven’t gone to any of them and my grades haven’t suffered. My one teacher said fuck it write an essay by the end of April then you’re good bc she was old and didn’t know how to use a computer. My other teachers have assigned 1-2 assignments every 5-8 days with multiple days to complete them. Some of the classmates I’m still in contact with haven’t done anything school related since spring break

Pretty much all of my classes have become insanely easy. I’m pretty lucky that none of my classes are super intense this semester and none are pre reqs for other classes. My one super technical class is rather difficult, but I’ve kinda sat backseat through it due to it not being super essential for my future. I couldn’t imagine trying to learn challenging concepts that are heavily relied on later on in schooling.

Same. I'm in one online class right now so I don't need to do work every day. But when I go to taking 10 classes over the course of the summer this isn't going to fly.

On one hand, like the entire department has the time to plan out the semester now instead of just being thrown into it in the middle like how this all went down in the spring semester. So part of me is worried because like they will have a plan and it's likely not going to be bullshitted. So it's probably still going to be just as hard, probably even harder with the structure change. Super intimidated honestly but I know some people are thriving from the reduced work load that they've gotten lol.

I feel like in some senses it'll be easier. For one all the exams and quizzes have to be open note or you can just google whatever you need to know. I also think that the classes will still be somewhat bullshitted because realistically it isn't that much time until the summer for them to get a full plan in place. Plus all those professors are probably teaching classes right now that they have to keep up with

My second year of college(the first time) I moved off campus for this very reason. Having the space is super necessary.

Once I move, I'll probably end up turning one of our spare bedrooms into an office but figuring it all out is gonna be quite interesting to say the least. Although, having a dedicated office may be the excuse I've been looking for to get a desktop.

We use a monitoring/lockdown browser. So it records a video of you taking the test and will tell your professor if your eyes wander, you read something, or really anything they deem suspicious. So tests will still be like taking them in person unfortunately. You even have to take your webcam and do an evironment check so they can see that you don't have notes or anything accessible lol. It's so extra.

Put a piece of scotch tape over the webcam so it looks blurry af and say your cameras fucked up. If they complain tell them you’d be happy to have them pay for a new laptop.

They actually provided plugin-able(if thats a word?) webcams so that if the one you have breaks, you have a back up. And you have to record and watch your videos before the test starts so you'd have to actually test it and confirm it's working. If it's not you gotta switch it and/or notify the professor because you also can only access the test during normal class times - they make it impossible to cheat is kind of what I'm getting at here haha. It's a little much.

Not really bitching or complaining at all. I’m genuinely interested in how people actually do full time school online. It’s definitely not the best program structure but it is what it is. I’m a super wordy person in general but def not trying to complain.

i take 6 classes online and i cant actually give a fuck because its impossible to give a single fuck if not two would be a stretch

It’s hard to focus and shit cuz I could do whatever else OTHER than school but my school is doing this thing wear you still get full credit no matter how late if it’s before the end of the term. Yes Ik that’s lucky af and I’m able to ski whenever I want this season. I’m so damn hypeeeeeddddddd.

Getting fucked in the ass right now. 2nd year masters. Slogged on my TA work/grading (please got don't be an asshole to your teacher/prof it's not our fault your online and we hate it 100x more than you do) ..have to find an internship in a month...have an exam tomorrow in the hardest class in my program worth 33% of my grade and idk what to study. Flew back home to see my gf for a few weeks and now am in lockdown in her house because her mom has corona.....slowly going insane.


Building a puzzle of the national parks rn though. So that's fun.

I'm a junior in high school and i'm back full time 5 days a week. Masks on all the time, and we have high compliance since no one wants to sit at home anymore. Lots of outside classes and preparing for a shutdown though, we've only had one case so far but I'm sure it's coming. When I was online last year I put my phone as far away from me as possible and found a room with the least distractions in it. Self discipline is key.

I have completed 9 solid hours of online schoolwork today without going outside or eating anything. I had three tests today and I think I failed them. Since my school is doing the hybrid thing, when we are online they just assign busywork, and then hardly anything when we are in school.

I need to go get some exercise or something immediately

Very lucky that Australia put big restrictions in place early, and my state has 6 cases or something, all contained.

That said, I commute two hours on the train four days a week to go to uni so it sucks balls. I end up trying to study/practice at home a lot which is challenging to say the least. I've got to memorise this stupid song for a lesson tomorrow and it's straight up not gonna happen. I'm focusing on my recital for the end of next month, fuck all other assessment.

I've been doing my degree pretty much majority online now since this all kicked off. Biggest thing that has worked for me is just committing to 2 x 4 hour study blocks each day. I read tons of shit about "study an hour then take a 15 minute break" or "study 30 minutes and take a 5 minute break" I tried rotating this for ages and it did fuck all for me, I would set a timer for an hours work, finish and then just sit on my phone for like an hour and struggled getting back into it. I get all set up before 9am, grab a big bottle of water and a bunch of snacks PUT MY PHONE OUT OF SIGHT (I cannot stress this enough) and just work from 9am-1pm, 2 hour break, and then another from 3-7pm. It seems like a long time but once you're zoned in it goes so quickly, and you've finished your days work by 7pm. You can choose whatever times you want for your 4 hour blocks, or make them 3 or 5 hour blocks if you don't think you need that much time/need more time, I don't know that it works for everyone but this was a game changer for me.

I skated with some kid who goes to the highschool I went to and he said it's a total shitshow. Everybody cheats, they go in person like 3 days a week every 8 days or some shit and there's like 20 different groups. Half the kids computers or devices don't work 100% of the time. And for sure half of them are alt tabbing to fortnite or just on their phones.

Kind of glad I'm not in school at the moment. The whole situation seems so non ideal.

I live in Ohio, our schools have reopened but are offering all online or in-person, or both at some schools. I am in my 12th grade year and just wanted to have a social life so I am in person. Problem is, my school is sending kids home by the class if a person turns positive in the class. 14 day quarantines are a commonplace now because of the teachers teaching online and in school at the same time. I feel so awful for the teaching 2 times the classes and having to take extra time to deal with kids coming in and out of school. Classes feel empty and are empty. My county is in the red zone now though, so I am sure that we will go all online soon.
