I mean to be fair it looked really bad for womens pipe skiing. Also pretty bad for the "everyone should get paid the same for everything".
Plenty of smaller comps, it's a real contest between the guys that show up. And then sometimes so few women that show up they automatically win.
Sucks for the women who crush it though too.
Idk it's good to see womens comps the last few years. The slope has been sick. I haven't followed the pipe much and I've legit preffered womens snowboarding to mens for years now. Lots of progression and people shredding it.
Swaney sucks and I hate her fans, but she did show a lack of interest. It's hard to say "she took the spot away from other women" because she litterally qualified just by showing up. She can't ski for shit. If enough women showed up that could even grab and air out, she wouldn't have qualified.
Or maybe it was all because of the lack of people specifically in Hungary? I forget how the olympics work and don't really care, and probably just pissed off a thousand people stirring up the pay debate.
Idk. At least seeing the programs focussing on getting women out there more has been dope. And seeing packs of them skiing or riding through the parks killing it more regulary.
Not sure if she is a scam. She did play by the rules and get in. The rules though should be changed so that attention drunks like her don't do it again. Also if Disney makes a movie about her (think Eddie the Eagle) in 20 years I'll be unnecessarily pissed off.
The sooner people forget about this the better
Make a thread about an up and coming female pipe skier next time you have the urge to tear into the lady
That way she can loose the spotlight she never deserved
Personally I feel bad for her. Imagine being so socially delusional and caught up in yourself

Eddie actually tried doing something incredibly dangerous AND beat the ever-changing rules on multiple occasions. Swaney skied like a freshly born baby deer down a gradual slope.
That's like comparing Freeride World Tour competitors ripping down the Bec des Rosses to the Bunch barely making it down gentle pow runs.

Seriously man, people always be talking about equality and support for women's sports and then when a woman makes a joke out of a women's sport that struggles in popularity, they support her? Smh

Womens sports are a joke either way. If women want equal pay to the men then we need to be fair and give equal pay to handicapped athletes as well. Only fair...

See this is exactly why Liz Swaney sucks so fucking much, because people then make the jump to "see this is why women should actually get paid less". I think everyone on here agree's that the pay should be based off what you're bringing in, but attention whore's like her make an absolute mockery of REAL women's sport which in turn hurt all women trying to get the equal pay they deserve.
The US Women's Soccer team (the gender discrimination lawsuit currently underway) brought in MORE views and MORE revenue than the mens team, yes was compensated less on the basis that "it takes less skill, and the workload is less". That is such fucking bullshit yet here we are still laughing about women's sports.
I also just watched her run again god damn that was so much more cringe than I remember. For some reason I thought she at least threw a 3, or hit a wall switch. Fuck this chick to the end of existence.
GrandThingsStumbled on her Instagram recently and took some solace in realizing that she is an absolute NUTJOB
Yeah wow her at home videos are cringy, some of my friends who use to be at the PC cork school said she went there for a bit and said she was weeeirddd. I mean who really tries to be a professional in any random sport? She definitely found a loophole for the olympics but just had no right to be in a halfpipe at all.
but yeah i'd be interested to see what she's like in real life. i *think* i know what kinda person/archetype she probably is but i'm really curious how she seems to regard her olympic pipe move when asked about it in real life
This thread is nonsense. I never understand why people feel the need to talk about what people are doing wrong in skiing. There are so many more cool and interesting things to talk about in skiing and otherwise. Is what she did a little weird and off putting? Sure, but it doesn't have any real impact, so who cares. I don't buy the argument that she did a disservice to women's skiing generally with all her loop-holing. If someone wants to shit talk women's skiing off of this scenario, then fuck them, they were never on the right team anyway.

I agree with the first part of the argument but not with the Soccer section. As someone who's family is involved with the soccer federation and has followed that situation extensively your statement isn't true. The women's soccer is already OVERpaid, not the other way around.

Ok so again - I'm not saying that they should be paid MORE or LESS, I'm saying they should be paid EQUAL to whatever percentage/cut the men get.. You are probably more informed on the situation, but I have found this info on a few different articles...
Per Yahoo Finance: "USWNT games generated more total revenue than the USMNT games from 2016 through 2018: $50.8 million in revenue vs $49.9 million for the men"
Not trying to be confrontation, genuinely curious, what part of my statement isn't true?

So you have to remember that's the time when the women were making/winning the world cup and the men had missed it for the first time in three decades so naturally, they're going to pull in more money from GAMES because their games meant something. The men's team, however, performs much better overseas and does more traveling so they pull in more revenue overall and that before you even get into sponsors. The main problem in their argument lies in two places. One, the majority of both teams pay comes from FIFA bonuses which the men get more of because again internationally men's soccer pulls in more money. For comparison, the women's world cup generated 50million worldwide; the men's pulled in 5.4billion. So the bonuses for both the men and women's team are a percentage of this international revenue of which the men obviously benefit more from. The second fault in the women's argument is that THEY NEGOTIATED for the deal that they are now saying is sexist. They literally wrote it up... The reason they're paid less than the men in the deal, that again, they wrote is because they asked the US soccer federation to split there pay between international and club salaries. In the offseason, the men play in the MLS to make money as it's a self-sufficient league. The women's league has never been able to turn a profit (similar to the WNBA I believe) but in this case, there was no NBA to bail them out. So instead they asked the US federation to pay for both their international and club salaries with the international being reduced. This club league that allows them to play year-round against real competition is why we dominate and win every year because no other country has such a high-level women's league for them to train in year-round. Furthermore, the women's team was offered the SAME EXACT deal the men currently have (base salary being the same + FIFA bonuses out of US control) and they turned it down soooo.... And lastly, the comments you quoted about them being paid less because it "Requires less skill and commitment" was said BY A WOMAN so hard to see how that's being sexist.

Women can absolutely say sexist things about women...poor argument reflecting a poor understanding of sexism.

Ok yeah these are all really good points (especially the one that the women agreed to the contract, splitting pay between club and international level) I didn't realize that, and yeah that really handcuffs their argument. Just goes to show how easy it is to get swept up in a narrative.
I do still disagree with your last point tho, just because it was said by a woman, doesn't mean it can't be sexist.(I'm also having trouble finding who actually said this, just that it's listed in their counter filing?)

Yeah, that last part was a poor argument on my part, this debate just gets me kinda heated. Especially with the rhetoric usually used in conversation around the topic.
And the woman who said it was a lawyer who was representing the US Soccer Federation

Lmao, must be. They're still up on ebay. What's even funnier is that she's listed them like a dozen times since the first auction and hasn't gotten a single bid in any of them.

She’s running the Boston Marathon next year? Guessing under a sponsor exemption. Also guessing her time will be...something less than even moderately proud.

at least it's very doable for a fit person to train enough in a year to make a very respectable showing in the marathon, while you cannot just become an olympic level skier in a year
she seems actually delusional so i wouldn't be surprised if she didn't finish and still thought she did an amazing job. but at least it's in the realm of possibility; normal people run the marathon every year (and raise donations in the process!)
