I usually buy ~ a pair of skis a year, which is roughly the rate at which holes in my quiver open up through wear and me selling stuff.

So this year, I started my ski search late, and didn't get my skis by the time the season started. Luckily, the start of the season was shit anyways, (as has been the whole deal), but it sucked anyways. So, this year, I'm starting it early. This is the big one... so I'm not expecting it to be over in a week, barring a miracle deal.

In case anyone's curious, the hole in my quiver is essentially my all-around, all mountain ski. This role is currently being filled by my rock skis. Luckily I'd be using those anyways, so this isn't urgent anyways. In any case, my solution is to do one of 2 things, depending on what happens in the next couple months as a result of this search. Either I fill the hole directly, or get a huge pow ski and use my pistols (currently the pow skis) to fill the hole, since I have come to realize that the pistol is more versatile than earlier thought.

The skis I'm looking for. PM me if you've got them. I'd prefer new or in near-new condition. Bindings, no bindings... either way.

I would consider a 188 scratch BC as an all-around ski (it's on the long side, but it's still ok), but the 192 moship is too long and wide to take the pistol's place for the all-purpose role, and not wide enough for an uber-fat. I don't really want two identical skis... I'm running a medium sized quiver, so they're all supposed to have different uses. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

my quiver goes like this 186 spatulas, 188 k2 axis xp, 183 stl's. I think it's pretty decent, definetly covers all my needs.
I think if they had wide long twins (for example the pistols) when I bought my 1080's (replaced this week) I would have just one pair, and it would be the pistols or pr's. Oh well, 3 is better than 1.

^Not long enough. They'd work for park skis, but I already have Ar5s for that.

How could you overlook the MSP 187cm? 127x96x114, it rocks as an all-mountain ski. Or even the MSp 180, 122x92x108, either way, you're leaving a perfect ski for your needs out of your equation.

The ARV's are a solid choice, out of what you listed....

^ Half twin. Only problem I have with them... I'm not a huge fan of 4frnt overall, actually. 5frnt, of course, is a completely different story.

And LizB, I'd buy prophets from Jibij RIGHT NOW, if not for the fact that he probably wants about 600 bucks for them. Not happening. I can get them for less now, and even less in the summer, barring someone buying one of the 3 pairs I know of in BC. Prophets were a longshot to begin with...

Where can you get them for 400 new? I figured 600. The sidecut is screwed, though... I have no idea what those things would be like. 162/113/154? Whaaaaaaa...

Although in retrospect, I am considering spatulas, so maybe I shouldn't discount a ski just because its sidecut is messed up.

Well spatulas are the other way for the sidecut though, they way that makes you not have to fight them.

^This is a point... it's kind of confusing, really. Next year's Volkl Sumo is the same kind of thing, slightly less pronounced (145/125/142), and I assume that's supposed to be a pow ski. Guy above, have you ridden crystal ships? review?

Alright, I'm confused. You want an all-mountain ski but you're considering prophets, Sumo's, and Spatula's???

What exactly do you want??? I ski on Armada's now and love them. But, I've tried 4FRNT's and am switching as soon as I get the cash flow. I've never been on a better ski, seriously. I don't know about the Vinnie's or the Steele's, but the MSP is the best true all-mountain ski I've tried. Honestly don't know what's holding you back...

Ive ridden them for a very very short period (it was about two runs) but i just found myself turning way to quick for what i was riding just because i wasnt in a tight glade like those skis are meant for. But if thats what your riding, that is definately your ski.

Magnum, you should probably have read the whole post; it answered that question. MSPs... half twin... expensive... I'm unconvinced by them. I'll take them if I can get a really good price. That's about it.

ya, i rode crystal ships at hood. there are only 20 pairs made rite now, but they rip through anything, and absorb over shot landings like none other. a little hard to turn on groomers/in moguls, but float sooo nice in pow

for wide pow skis, check out DBskis.com

they are expensive, but i would expect them to last a damn long time since the whole core is carbon fiber.

well, that may be 1000 cnd, but they are 880 us. (ya its close). i wouldnt pay that for skis either, but if they last. after seeing them in person, they are nothing like any other ski i have seen, and light.they are basically carbon fiber, a top sheet a base and edges. i mean, heck, i wouldnt buy them now, but if it turns out they are that much more durable then other skis, and they last twice as long or whatever, why not?

i suggested them, becuase i didnt know how much you were looking at spending, they seem cool to me, but i wount pay that either.

I'm going to again put in my suggestion for the spatulas, they kill it in pow and anything soft. I got mine off ebay for 339, that's about 1/3 retail.

$299 US... cant really beat that.. i think i worked it out with shipping it came to like $430 Cdn to canada... pretty insane deal.

have u checked out Capitol skis... they make some super nice pow skis... all at $600 Cdn.. custom built skis out of Pemberton. theyre the ones u see around whistler with a wood laminate top sheet. anyone with a pair swears by em. they even do custom shapes for only $700... ur own pro model!

I called and emailed VIP Orderskis about the made'ns, and they didn't answer me. As for Capitol, that sounds promising. I'll see if I can find a website.

If you want a powder specific ski, why does it matter if that ski sucks outside of powder? I'm pretty sure most park specific skis suck outside of the park, or in powder. I've you're going to have a quiver, get the best tool for the job, as long as you have an in between ski, the only hard thing is choosen what ski to use.
