Which is harder men and women, Soccer or skiing

assuming you're coordinated soccer is probably easier.
Let's say you're trying to reach pro level.

-soccer would be much easier to become good at in terms of training and becoming good at kicking a ball. theres much easier access and it can be done year round much easier
-its hard to say which would have more frequent injuries, but skiing is far more risky and the injuries tend to be more serious or long term? again hard to say exactly.

the issues with the comparison:
-while soccer is most likely easier to learn, the sport has far more players and so reaching that top level means being a grain of sand on a beach. whereas with skiing you comparatively may only be a grain of rice in a bag - meaning if you can manage to get the skill down, skiing would be easier to reach pro status.
-probably no data to back up an argument for either side.

Skiing is way harder, it’s unnatural to operate skis and to navigate on an inclined plane. I think there is a much greater learning curve.

Anyone can play soccer, it’s played all over the world in even the poorest countries. All you need is your two feet on the ground and a ball. It’s the most popular sport in the world because it doesn’t discriminate, anybody can pick it up.

I would go the other way soccer is way harder. Accessibility doesn't change the difficulty, if you spent as much time skiing as the average kid does playing soccer, you would be really fkn good at skiing.

Add in that soccer even if you pick up good technique which I definitely think is harder to do. Consider even the best pros can't consistently put free kicks on target as an example, there is still the intangible skill of where to be, where to pass etc which many will never master. Compared to skiing being relatively obvious there is a cliff,rail or jump that lets you know where to go. I'll give it there are a few pros with really unique vision in skiing but it's not actually essential to being great you can just go off big cliffs straight and it's still sick.

Skiing is obviously riskier so if that factors into difficulty then you could swing the argument with that I guess.

One other thought, soccer is also opponent dependent, so if I learn an elastico sure I beat people for a bit but if the defenders learn how to read and defend it then it gets invalidated. Where in skiing if someone doing a trick or hitting a cliff doesn't stop me from doing it or learning it, if anything it just gets easier as mates teach their friends.

Okay now the question arrises, are we talking about learning each sport or competing at the highest level or what? I say this because right now we have points and perspectives all over the place.

Also soccer is a team vs team sport where skiing is a solo sport with a totally different objective. I don’t think we can really compare much other than which one is easier to casually “play” or learn.

I used to be the most average soccer player ever, I did fine but once I turned 13 I really noticed how far behind I was. Soccer never provided the drive to improve that skiing does for me today. I never practiced outside of scheduled events and there are kids that are far more athletic than me.

i do think it’s weird how a lot of us are more comfortable screaming down a snow covered hill at high speeds and attempting to throw flips and drop cliffs than running around on a field.

I ski religiously and have played soccer for like 11 years and i'm gonna say skiing is much more difficult. when progressing in soccer it just takes practice, but when progressing in skiing it takes balls. to huck your first backflip is equally as difficult as learning how to do a hard skill in soccer but hucking your first backflip is a thousand times more scary and you need to commit.

if you're talking about how hard it is to be good relative to the rest of the world's players, soccer is obviously harder, it's a more mature sport with zillions of players. the top pros are almost entirely academy kids since they were like pre-teens

the biggest difference between the sports is skiing is so much more mental than soccer. for park and to a lesser extent BC and racing, most reasonably fit people can be extremely good at skiing, even scrawny teenagers

whereas with soccer, even if i had pro-level skills, i still wouldn't have a prayer at being pro because every single one of those dudes is faster and fitter than i could ever hope to be. so in a weird way, skiing is a little more equal opportunity, at least genetics wise or whatever

you're probably just joking but if not, people are killed or maimed skiing every single year and i'm not aware of any soccer deaths

i play soccer and love it and it's a bit more intense than most people give it credit for, but skiing is an extremely dangerous sport compared to most

damn in grade 10 i had this same situation where it was teacher + 20 vs me on the topic of whether judges should be able to throw down the same tricks that competitors are doing, in order to be able to judge..

They're to different to compare in my opinion.

Soccer is a sport where you are actively competing against others. In skiing you are passively competing against others.

There are many more soccer players than skiers.

You can be out of shape and be an average skiing. It's much more difficult to be out of shape and an average soccer player.

Skiing is higher consequence. Few people die playing soccer, compared to skiing which is much more deadly in comparison.

They both have similar common injuries. Knees and concussions.

Soccer is much less consistent than skiing, due to the variability of the sport.

Soccer requires year round training to be above average. Skiing does not. For most skiers they can only ski a fraction of the year.


I think soccer is a more difficult sport but skiing is much gnarlier.

I think soccer has more frequent injuries but skiing definitely has more risk vs reward in terms of doing flips.
I definitely had more frequent injury’s and pain while playing soccer for years than I’ve had skiing the past 4 years. But that’s playing and practicing nearly every day vs
Skiing 2-5 times a week and not being over ambitious

I would agree, but if you started playing soccer at 8 years old and started skiing at 8 years old you have a much better chance of becoming a pro skier than a pro soccer player

I feel like mentally soccer is harder to figure out but skiing has many more mental blocks associated with it. Skiing is all about overcoming fear and being confident where soccer you need to know the system you're playing in and teammates. Skiing has a pretty linear progression of how to get better just by learning tricks or doing bigger cliffs where soccer is more intangible.

I think its hard to compare but in terms of whether you can go pro you have a way way better shot in skiing

Soccer is much harder. If your playing at a regional level it takes commitment, year round play, and hard work to keep up. Skiing takes hard work, but I say it's easier to be considered "good" at skiing than soccer

Definitely not easy being a soccer player on a stage like Champions or Premier League. It takes an insane amount of hard work to be a professional athlete and maintain your position in any of the major sports. Idk, kinda apples to oranges for me. Being a top-level skier definitely isnt easy either but thats due to other factors tbh.
