msmith8006First of all i want to say not all snowboarders hate skiers and there is no reason to dislike each other. Ive been a snowboarder for 15 years and i would classify myself as very experienced. I dont scrape off snow, and half my friends ski. Any time you get after powder and have fun with friends is awesome its not a rivalry. Ive had my experience in the park learning 270 outs front boards and alot of fun tricks, hit alot of big jumps and had alot of fun. Now im 25 and havnt hit the park in a couple years. Living in new jersey skiing mountains with grass showing every winter now also doesnt help my case. I love ripping glades and doing pow turns but even taking trips up north weather is the ultimate factor. I love snowboarding and will never give it up, but alot of my friends ski and it is awesome. So long story short, i bought a pair of skis so i can learn how to ski in my free time in the poconos. Does anyone have good ski advice to learn from someone that can snowboard very well that wants learn about skiing as well. Although snow sports are similar i could use good advice on skiing compared to snowboarding. Thank you guys very much

hubbardsFunny story, I've been a skier my whole life but recently I've picked up snowboarding for fun (still skiing though). On my third day, some douche sprayed me hard while I was sitting off on the side of the run. I've never been sprayed as a skier, so that I got my first true taste of discrimination.
The only thing I can really say is beware getting sacked on a rail... your balls are no longer safe! Also t-bars are a hell of a lot easier with skis on.
Speaking of snowboarding, do you have any tips for someone starting snowboarding from skiing? I can fs/bs turn consistently, carve a bit, and air off of hips and stuff, but I'm still scared of an edge catch when I switch from toe to heel edge.
RedLegion17Hey man, no shade was thrown Both sports are super cool! I am a snowboarder by trait (used to compete a few years back while in college, mostly slopestyle) and now being 25, i switched to skiing. This is my second season on skis, and I can assure you that your learning curve will be significantly faster than the average person trying to learn this sport. Also, it doesnt matter what state you are in, I am in Ohio, as long as you can make it to your local hill and practice your skiing. I would recommend you take a lesson that teaches you some basics (or learn from a friend that knows what he is talking about), but after that you should be good to go, since you know how edges work, the park etiquette and the basics of how to approach features. As I mentioned, this is my second season on skis, and i can spin 3's as well as 270 off already, so I can safely say that the actual switch to skiing is not as hard as you may think, and it simply because you are already used to snow sports and jumps/rails from your snowboarding years. I think the key is practice though, I spent 60 or so days on skis last season and at 20 or so this season. Also, given an option, I definitely enjoy skiing more. Welcome to the club!
