Spinal cord injuries- discuss

Anyone ever had one? Know someone with one?

I just happened to turn on HBO and there was a special on it. Really really weird because I happened to be thinking today what I would do if I ever became quadriplegic. It was really inspiring to see these people still getting at it and changed my perspective a bit. It really is a miracle in itself to survive an spinal cord injury.

It also is a somber reminder of how fragile we are and how easy it is for this to happen especially in the sports we participate in. Land the wrong way and your ski/bike/surf/whatever career and maybe your life could be over, and I'm not speaking figuratively. These sorts of injuries seem to get forgotten about by the general population and that's a shitty fact. Hopefully one day it won't be such a permanent thing.

I wanna look at your comment on the flip side, you say it's a sombre reminder of how fragile we are... but Paul Basagoitia’s ongoing recovery is proof that the human body can be fragile, but also fucking AMAZING. How it can heal itself from absolutely catastrophic damage is just fantastic.

There's another downhill rider called Brook Macdonald who broke his back in September, he's had to learn to walk all over again but plans to be racing DH again next year, just incredible stuff.

We're all guilty of taking it for granted, look after yourselves guys

Watch “A Few Words” the Candide Thovex story. Dude broke vertebrae in his neck and was pretty much told he’d never be able to ski at the same level he used to. He switched it up from park to backcountry/big mountain and is still crushing it. All depends on your mentality and preparation/ability.

Stand Strong appears to no longer be operating. Its almost been 15 years since MAB's injury in Canada, crazy.

Remy Morton broke his back at Loosefest and he was back on the bike pretty quickly

My brother broke his back and face in a dirt bike accident. Had leg movement after the crash, but no movement after surgery. Paraplegic, luckily not a quad.


ish gets REAL when it’s that close
to you. Makes you think twice when you’re about to drop into a sketchy line.
