Pivots vs STH vs Attack

Trying to decide on bindings for my Jeffery 96s. Have pivots on some of my other skis love them. But also the price and the price of breaking a brake kills me. It’s been years since I’ve rode an STH but everyone seems to agree they are still amazing. Never rode attacks. Ride with my dins at 10. Looking at either a 16 or 18 din. What’s everyone’s thoughts?


Also love how close to the ski I feel with the pivots are the attacks and pivots like that?

ive got two pairs of sth2 16s. last years gold and some even older neon green. they have a nice solid steel base/spindle type thing, then the V seems to be plastic and attaches to the steel plate/pivot point. hard to explain. maybe ill take pics later and post em up

im a fan of sth2, but i always have to run a significantly higher din compared to pivots and you have check your wing adjustment, and height adjustment periodically. Solid feel. great adjustability, great features. but if i ride them and forget about keeping things tight, ill tend to have pre releases.

tldr: keep up on checking the adjustment and theyre great bindings.

What about boot movement when flexing the ski? I’ve heard complaints of significant boot movement when flexing skis?

I haven’t had any issues. Others can fee
free to chime in here with their own experiences.

Sth2s actually have a built in “float” system to allow the ski to flex more naturally. If you have an unmounted pair you can pretty easily identify it. Seems legit to me.

I like sth more than pivots as a binding but I have had multiple pairs of sth's where the lead screw in the heelpiece (for forward pressure) wears down and starts slipping backwards, popping off, all sorts of shitty stuff. After the first time, I figured it was just ash from Mt Hood and still thought it was a good binding, then it happened again on the next pair I bought even without skiing Hood in the summer. So now I stick to the pivot, it is certainly a more durable binding despite being sometimes a pain in the ass cause the heelpiece never stays straight and the brakes are trash

Thanks. I think I’m going to stick with pivots. They are gunna be my all mountain chargers so a heavy burly binding is not a big deal. Plus I have more pivots if I need to swap brakes or something. Plus the forza pivots are dope.

Attacks do have a low stack height and are a great value. I'm not sure about the exact specs on elasticity and such.

I'm curious why you're shopping 16 and 18 DIN bindings and setting them at 10 which is in the middle third of the DIN range for most 13 DIN bindings? Have you blown up a lot of bindings? Just looking for metal construction and durability?

Cause I’m getting fat and old bro. Weight goes up and the sending of shit goes down lol. My other pivots are 14s. I’d probably be fine with 14s but I plan on making these last really long so the metal helps. Might just stick with 14s. I used to blow bindings up every year but now I don’t ride much park so it’s not a major issue.

Makes sense.

I have a pair of attack 16 ATs but only because I found a deal on them and they were $100 cheaper than the 13s. Running them on my low tide skis at 8.5 DIN. The stack height and weight on the AT version is not great but the build seems pretty burly.

I have STH2 16s on all of my skis. I'm not really sendy or big enough to break any decent binding but I've been able to get them cheap and they work with my WTR boots. Actually I got two pretty beat pairs from Jonah Williams and swapped some parts and they have been working great even though they are trashed cosmetically. The step in feel of the sth is so much better than pivots and I've never had any issues with stepping into them with snow on my boots. I haven't had any issues with the adjustment screws moving and I've put probably 200 days on various pairs.

All 3 are top notch bindings. Have all 3 currently on skis in my used quiver. Have no bad things to say about any of them.

if I had to choose one I’d go the pivots, but I’m happy skiing any of them.
Ive just always avoided marker bindings, however I got the chance to have a look and touch of the newly designed griffon and Jester and they look nice.

Went with pivot 14s. After looking and realizing I would be running the 18s on the lower 1/3rd of the din range I stuck with 14s like I have. Thanks for the advice guys. Next pair of skis might get STHs.
