How do I make my style not shit

I've never gotten footage of me skiing but every time I'm on inlines at the skatepark and I take footage of myself, it looks pretty fucking bad. I assume I look just as dumb while skiing. The worst part is that when I grind I feel like I afterbang and stomp it perfectly and then on camera I look awkward asf. Idk what to do about it and I'm worried that I just don't have the natural coordination in me to have good style. I do know some people who just have awful, flail-y style even if they can do difficult tricks and I'm worried I'm one of them. @swervemanguy has much more experience than me skiing and looks steezy as hell on the blades even if he's doing more basic tricks. Idk what I can do to make my style better, maybe lose some weight?

Speed makes just about every trick look better.


Aside from that most style is developed out of comfort

instead of trying new tricks take a step back and go back to basics. start getting super comfortable with the tricks you can do. I know its what everyone will tell you. and it might get boring, but once you start getting creative with the trick cuz you're bored you find your style.

Honestly tho idk what I can really do with the grinds i've already learned on blades, like I kinda already have them down pat in terms of locking the grind and landing with both feet at the same time, so there's not much point in doing it over and over again. I've been trying to learn 180 into a grind and it's just super inconsistent and I don't always go to a park where I feel comfortable practicing it. I still have a lot of basics to learn on skis, which I might never learn given how much I ski each year.
Idk man, I'm plateauing on inlines after only like one year, it's pretty sad, I wish I could get good enough to make entertaining videos but guess not

Try doing a bunch of random stuff. Eventually something might look decent and you can go from there. Given enough time anyone can develop a cool style. It's not like you're stuck with the one you have.

Filming can help you get an accurate picture of yourself so you can start working on what to fix. Like the above posts, comfort helps the most and just repetition of your tricks

ski fast. I see way too many kids in the park skiing slow af up to rails and then trying to do like a billion front swaps. Skiing fast will give you good style because if you aren't in control going fast you're gonna eat shit, and being in control is basically the same thing as having good style.

Most people will tell you style should just come naturally as you get more comfortable with a trick, but it's also possible that will just never happen. There's ton of people (even pros) who have tricks on the lockdown but they still don't look particularly stylish. If you're serious about it just film yourself and compare the footage with someone doing the same trick, but in a way you like. Compare the two clips, frame by frame if you must and try to spot the differences (different axis, upper body movements, ...). Then go and try to do it like the guy in the clip.

This is a bit extreme but will probably get you there much faster than just experimenting. You won't find your style this way as it's just copying someone else's. But I'd say it's better to start looking for a way to differentiate your tricks after you're happy with the way they look.

Style is just body movements + outfits, so there's no reason it couldn't be learned the same way tricks are

Go faster. Go bigger. Put it all on the line more. Grow and change and love yourself. This is known to be the way to the style.

Honestly just work on each trick one at a time. I caught myself doing ugly bonerific blind twos today every once in a while. Dial in one trick till you feel good then go on to the next.

Try to get the point where the trick is easy for you to do. If you look like youre struggling to pull off the trick, youre gonna have bad style. If you make it look easy or effortless, your styles gonna be good. There are a few other aspects but mainly its about making things look easy.

So you are saying these tricks are easier for you on inline skates than on skis?
try to be in touch with your core strength when you do tricks also. You dont want to be stiff, but you want to have some rigidity. Its hard without seeing your footage tho.

Practice=Comfort=Style. Ski, eat shit, get up, ski again. Throwing your poles away helps too

Forget about how you "look". Just have fun man. Don't take it so serious.

it takes practice, keep learning harder and harder tricks and then the easier ones will seem so easy that u can do them in your sleep. Thats when the style comes out, I personally think style comes from making hard tricks look easy. Rn it seems like your doing hardish tricks that are still kind of hard for you. Hang in there any keep trying my guy. Also cameras never do you justice, the tricks always look smaller and so do the features, so theres a good chance it looks way cooler in person than it does on camera. Im the same way, can do some heftier rail tricks but they still require a lot of effort and are by no means easy, consequently they dont look as smooth and stylish as I would like.

Don't let trying to look good for a video ruin your fun. Just have a good time. It takes time to "look" good. You need to ski a lot!
Just keep skiing and doing what is fun for you. After a bunch of skiing, you will naturally start to "look" better.

I'm just worried bc I know people who have been blading for years and years and still have awful style despite being able to do many hard tricks

Yea, video is fun. Riding ski blades can be good for learning for and aft balance. It's hard to "Look" good on ski blades no matter who you are!
Make some video. If you don't look as good as you wished, just don't let it get you down.

Plus having speed gives you more airtime to do the same trick which means it's slower, giving you time to grab, tweak, shifty, whatever to add style

to master the art, you must first master the mind.
just eat healthy and do dangerous(but not reckless) stuff
you will slowly grow more comfortable landing stuff imperfectly.

Don't take yourself so seriously. Just "disappear" for a season, push yourself every day, ski with friends who are better than you, doing things you aren't comfortable doing. You wont look good by trying to look good, get comfortable. Push it, just let the style develop naturally. Again, the "super serious" guy is the guy nobody wants to ride with. Skiing is fun, so have fun.

Just try to not to worry about it too much, i think that makes it worse. Just relax and try not to flail around, be confident in your skiing. Everyone's skiing is different, that's what makes it cool.

Yea. I get the feeling. I suppose one thing I need to work on is watching clips before leaving the trick. It's a lot easier to know what you want the trick to look like after you watch a clip of you doing it. Also having a filmer who knows what they're doing helps big time. Like if I know my arms flail around a lot on rails, I want my filmer to get shots that don't focus on my wacky arms.

Are yo able to do Royales yet?

gotta work on fundamentals over and over that’s where the fun is not the video parts you trying to make in the future...

if if that doesn’t make sense nothing will

also rollerblading is probably the hardest sport in the world to make it look easy especially when you trying to force it.

cant force it, gotta be patient and willing to slam hard and often to progress

Not gonna sugar coat it... if you gonna be pushing yourself in skates you need to accept that there is a lot of pain coming by your way

"Style" comes when you have done a trick so many times that it becomes second nature and this means you no longer have to worry about the technicalities that go into a being able to do a trick (where to look, how to set, your stance, what grab to use etc...) and instead you can start to add your own "style" to the trick find what feels the best for yourself.

Think about how you want to look then film yourself trying to do it then realise what you did wrong then keep doing that over and over until you think it looks good. Then do the same with a harder trick

also go fast and keep your arms down

I know people who have a ton of experience/years blading and still have horrible style so I'm not so sure about that

Be patient with your head. I see a lot of people looking uphill before takeoff when spinning. Set from your chest and the rest will follow. Same goes for grabs. Finish your set and pop, and once you've fully left the jump, you can start reaching for the ski. On a 3 I usually grab between 90 and 180.

keep your arms close to your body, you’re skis close together. And not only do big baggy pants look cool, they remove a lot of knee movement so it looks clean
