Can I drop air jordan with only 2 weeks training?

My days of charging are becoming numbered... (I'm getting old). I want a big box tick for my skiing and I've been thinking about air jordan. Did corbets this year (zzz I know I know) and thinking of upping the ante significantly by attempting AJ this January if there is enough snow.

BUT

I haven't dropped any cliffs before... at all... like maybe one.

I can ski. very well.

Can you 'train' for it? Im in Whistler for two weeks. Enough time to build up to AJ? or am I D E A D? who wants to film me rag dolling?

Cliff jumping is about best practice you can get. Body awareness is critical when your going to spend more than a few moments in the air.

Practice four point landings off of cliffs and turning afterwards to lose speed and maintain control

Instructor / used to race / can hit most rails in parks / 360 mute my go to - have landed a few 7s... no inverts or real cliffs dropped tho... might put it into perspective a bit more *shrug*

was pretty much free fall in but did the corner line not straight off like they do in the comp if that makes sense....

Thanks all - I cant post more than 5 times in a day apparently - actually got the advice I needed and pumped to send. Most of the vids of guys ragdolling off the second ledge they seem to survive so I reckon if I put a few decent drops in before giving it a shot I might be able to eek out a landing. Will let you know in Jan when I attempt it in case anyone wants to film for JOTD. yew!

Have you never skied at a ski area with rocks or cliffbands before? Just trying to understand.

I feel like this is a troll but I'll take the bait...

If you haven't actually dropped cliffs before, and you realize that you are probably going to eat shit I have three pieces of advice:

1. Get there first thing in the morning on a pow day, or wait for spring when it has the most coverage... only like 3 people can realistically hit it in a day.

2. Don't ski the bitch line where you drop the top and cut across lookers left, In addition to ruining the landing for everyone else you'll probably just eat shit on the first drop and take a slow (and much more painful tumble) down the second. Drop in as straight as you can, try to take a turn on the middle and send'er off the bottom.

3. Don't fucking do it, there's plenty of other large and achievable cliffs in WB that aren't 30 foot double stagers. 3rd step right underneath is as big as the second air of AJ, Flute has some good shit, etc..... but you'll probably need someone who knows where they are going.

I know a dude I used to shred with on pow days and I sometimes even struggled to keep up with him, and I know he doesn't really do cliffs either. I guess he is just not that interested in catching some air, to each his own. But trust me the man could point em and probably skis better and charges harder than 90% of NS.

Take your poles and do continual drops off of a sofa or similar drop, practice that pole plant motion. Guarantee if you get those down you're gonna be poppin' that first hit like nothin, then planting like a godamn gardener on that second hit. I can picture the afterbang now.. Make sure you do a steezy pow slash as you ride out! Make sure and get that #footyforthebois

While I agree Air Jordan probably shouldn't be the first cliff anyone tries, don't tell people not to send it, it fucks with your head which is super dangerous in my opinion

You'll be lucky if Air Jordan will be even hit-able during your two week window.
Don't forget to crank your dins because loosing a ski on the middle plateau happens way too often.

Meh depends on the conditions. I took a buddy who has skied maybe 20 times up and he did it. All it takes is two or three decent turns and your home free.

If the OP is looking to hit the actual double drop then I would recommend against it strongly, unless he is 100% mentally ready for the reality of this type of feature. Dropping straight cliffs is a huge mental game in itself but this is a unique double that may get him in deep trouble.

Here is why: based on the footage above you have to drop a decent 12' side hit into an off camber slab. This means you now have two options.

Option 1 is have to land and get your composure immediately to hit the brakes to set up for the main drop. Then face the mental game of a mandatory air that requires a decent amount of speed to clear the rocks so no slide down to the edge and pop over, its straight line and send or nothing. Dealing with that reality in your head with your adrenaline cranked from the first hit will really get to you and you better be able to nail that second one in 20 seconds or less or your nerves are going to get you.


Your other option which is what I would recommend is to hit the first drop as a hip and land into the fall line and huck the main cliff with that speed and send it to the parking lot. This means landing the first, getting your balance and setting up a solid pop on a small slab with the afterburners on then getting way more air time than 99% of skiers are going to be used to and keep your shit together the entire time. At least with this option you have a much better chance of hitting soft snow and you wont have time to get sketched out on the slab. That and greasing doubles just feels soooo boss, its like "Yep, aaaaaaaand yep..... thats whats up".

If you watch the video above that is what nailed most of those guys. They either got tripped up on the off camber slab and tumbled over the main cliff or dropped it as a true double then air panicked on the main cliff from the max send and rag dolled in the landing.

It looks like there are some really nice straight cliffs later in the film, I would go for those as you are much less likely to get into trouble where you could be seriously hurt and will most likely be more satisfying.

To the OP, not meaning to sketch you out with this. If your ready, your ready but I want you to make sure your mentally aware of what kind of mind state your going to face and to make sure your prepared for that.

When I went (March this year) it was just a gargantuan vert wall of hardpack, even on the goat path drop. It was also closed the whole time lmao

Yeah that is going to be prob the best happy medium. Hit the first feature and land straight down the fall line then maybe throw a speed check or two before setting up to the second hit as long as you can maintain enough momentum to clear that rock band.

As a side note, holy fuck that same 4:53 dude basically sent a road gap into a iced out mogul field????

I haven’t been to whistler but this cliff doesn’t look that huge? Is it like a coming of age thing? Is it way bigger than it looks? Has anyone sent the first cliff to the second landing? Will OP be the first?

This is dope. Last winter I watched a guy drop the first cliff, release the entire pocket of the landing, manage not to get swept off, climb back up and then grease the second. Nice moment. Anything is possible OP.

well I did it.... then the next day when it was blue sky I went back to do it again but saw a bunch of kids lining up and trying to side step down into the entry so yeah I think it's hardish if you do it properly but it's also do-able by jerrying the entry if you get me... hence the zzz.

S+S a different story. Thats on the list for next time.

Wtf is going on Whistler!! lift FFS!! ... looks like it might be the same as when i was there for the '04/05 season... that was a total disaster.

time to look into hire cars that I can drop off at Calgary... :( *cry*
