Season Goal Checkin

We're closing in on the end of the season here, so share your goals, did you meet them?

I'll go first:
1. Land first backflip
Check, got it, not on lock, but I've landed one and I've got the rotation style now
2. Land first 360
Came so close for a day of trying, havent tried since that one day midseason
3. Land first frontflip
Didnt even try it, had a few pow days but just didnt go for it
4. Hit broom closet chute
Absolutely on lock
5. Mineral moto gap
On lock and hit blackjack which is way bigger
6. Go bigger and get more comfortable riding switch
Certainly went bigger off the wave and cattracks, overall much more comfortable in the air. Switch riding has improved
7. Hit some bigger cliffs
Stomped broom closet lookers right side twice and crashed twice the next week, launched gadzoom lift line, broom closet is such a crapshoot when it comes to snow quality
8. Make more friends who ski
Met some of you guys, made a few real good friends and have gotten somewhat famous for that switch pond skim slam
9. Teach Gf to ski better
She shreds hard now. Starting to get in the air, has tail butters and has skied the cirque, mission accomplished. She likes to go real fast

While I may not have landed that 360 or frontflip, backflip landing and first broom closet stomp were the real 'fuck yeah' I'm screaming out loud moments of my season. Overall it was an amazing season.

I didn’t have any tricks in mind per se, but my major goal was to get out west. I ski far less than I used to these days because life, work, location, etc.

finally made it out to Tahoe and skied Squaw for the first time. Hit some of the biggest lines of my life and fulfilled a long time dream. I’d call it a success and I still have a few good weekends ahead. Just planned a trip to Tucks in late April as well, conditions permitting :)

Had a goal of perfecting backflips and this has been rather unsuccessful this year I’m my limited attempts.


Have skied the most big steep terrain of any season though and have progressed in more technical skiing situations in tight chutes and stuff which is dope.

My goals were cork 7, flat 5, fours out both ways, sw 7s, k feds, Brittany's, and switch on to rails. I achieved all that and more. I got sw on k fed, rodeo 7, 5 with Buick grab and more

yep, got some clips on hollywood, felt pretty good about it. pretty sure Im going to the U next year.

3. cork 7, 9
havent gotten around to it, i have them on lock on tramp so i don't think it will be too hard

4. get more clips
complete failure, I just don't like waiting around.

This season has been horrible as far as weather goes.

1. Tried 450 on, slipped off, hit my head hard enough to crack my helmet. Been too spooked to try again since.

2. Tried to flair/rodeo 5 off a tiny jump and got very close. Waiting for a slushy quarter to try again on.

3. Got front swaps on lock, would like to do lip on fs f4 by end of season.

4. Got much better at hitting rails both ways.

5. Did 720 both ways, would like try a 9 or 10 on slushy jump maybe

6. Did a switch backie off a small drop first t, prolly will never do it off a jump.

7. Still havent done a 3 swap the way I want to, but I'm working on it.

Overall very satisfied with my season. Manged to push my rail game beyond what I ever thought I could do and didn't get any serious injuries.

Can't wait to move west next season!

I've skied less this year than any other in the past (career, gf, and other stuff taking up a lot of my time) so i'll share mine just to hopefully make someone else feel better about theirs since I'm not even close.

1. 450 both ways - haven't even gotten close. got close on f4s the previous year but barely tried this year so far
2. front swaps - pretty comfortable on tubes but still sketch on other rails
3. blind swaps - think I tried a couple times and got nowhere near it.
4. 3's with grabs - barely hit any jumps this year
5. land a 5 - same as above
6. backflip - should have tried at the beginning of the season when the midwest got pounded with snow but didn't and now we haven't gotten any for a bit. might try in the spring slush
7. both ways switch on - took one day earlier this season on a perfect small proggy line and was feeling good about them but haven't put much time in since.

Now with most of our seasons cut short because of the beer virus I figured I'd revive this.
I've been reflecting back on my season of a whopping 23 ski days. I didn't get anywhere close to the 50s like my previous years due to moving during the beginning of the season, traveling a bunch for the holidays, and then losing the last couple weeks.
Best thing I did was get new skis ..albeit only was able to get the last 4 days on them but still having longer stiffer skis was a game changer for my skiing style. I felt way more stable and confident at high speeds and loved that I was able to pop and ollie with them.

1. Learn Rails and be more comfortable on boxes. ---Check...Nothing major but got myself to hit some beginner low flat wide rails. I'm the happiest with this one because this was a huge mental block that I overcame just to get onto a rail.

2. Do 360. Do better 180s. Hit bigger jumps. Do other grabs than a safety---Partial check..I got one 360! on Trollhaugens last day on the natural quarter pipe. I only tried just the one time that day and got it! Having the poppier skis helped me get it all the way around this time. If Id gotten the new skis earlier I probably would have had the confidence to go for the bigger jumps. I got slightly better 180s and the biggie was being able to get the unnatural side too..

3. Improve switch.. in general and get more comfortable---Check!

4. Make ski friends and actually ski with them. That's probably why my progression was kinda slow---Check! funny story I ran into an old boss of mine in the lift line just randomly waiting...Had no idea she was a skier. So I actually got a few days skiing in with her. I actually had conversations with people in the park (big deal when you're an introvert) I didnt ski with them though as my skill level was no where near theirs.

5. Get creative. Like try butters and daffies stuff. Check--I suck at butters but got in some tophaloaf style daffies.

overall I'm pretty happy with my short season. I also spent more time just working on traditional skiing technique this season.

2. Switch 5, 7 - Got the 5 pretty early on, but stopped trying and never landed it since. Didn't go for the 7.

7. Ski some gnarlier lines in the Sugarloaf sidecountry - Snow wasn't too great this year and I only got up to Sugarloaf for 3 days, still got a run down Hell's gate which was pretty fun. Didn't get over to the cliffs I was eyeing up above brackett, maybe next year.

Bummed that the season ended early and I feel like I could have landed a few more things, but overall the season was as good as I could have hoped for and I had some fun times.

hell to the fricken ya dude. Brings me back to my Sugarloaf days. Can't tell ya how many years I've wanted to get to those cliffs but never made it.

-Jump off larger features and look cleaner on landings
-Hit Staircase Glade at Jay
-Improve technical skills
-Get wife into skiing (most difficult yet likely will be the most rewarding goal if successful)
-Ski 20+ days this year (piece of cake for most here, but very difficult based on my geography)
-Ski 25k+ vertical in a day (my record is 23896 ft)

Thinking about this thread the other day. Oh well. Guess some (most) are rolling over.

-360: ehh kinda but no. One time I managed to get all the way around and landed backseat but at least I didn't stall backwards and get fucked up. Progress but I ain't counting it.
-butter, backflip: didn't even try
-jumps, drops, landings, etc: Definitely better by a lot but have much room to improve.
-Staircase glade: thanks corona, otherwise was gonna be 100% yes.
-technical skills: much much better. Getting pretty good at going fast in glades, even sketchy parts. Same for moguls. Carving skills are getting noice. Finding myself searching for the most technical ways down for added style.
-wife to ski: we can all dream can't we?
-20+ day? Nope, was on track but virus derailed that. Only got 13 :(
-vertical >25k in a day.... Smashed it with 35,364ft which is impressive because it took me 60 runs to do it lmao

I met one goal, no injuries
TnskiLike to get at least 50 days in and hit some pow days at mission ridge. Stay with friends near big sky never been there. Hopefully make it to Brighton for a week. And last but not least , no injuries.

-Landed some more new rail tricks
-Started to understand the hype behind jump skiing. Got way more comfortable with switch corks, rodeos, and finally got some corks (morks-I tend to throw my shoulder forward instead of back).
-Went to Utah in January and skied 27" of powder with 3 other powder days surrounding it. First real powder experience and it couldn't have been better!

Still hoping rona szn comes to an end so Mt. Hood can happen, but I'm not holding my breath. If it happens, I have some more jump tricks to unlock.
Ginger_Drew-Did a lot of new rail tricks and manage a sw rod 7.
-Got away from Troll to hit PC and Hood

Failed to commit to try a cork 7.

I was really fortunate and skied somewhere north of 100 days this season.

1. Learn to ski
Check

2. Learn to ski bumps
Check

3. Land first 360
Check, on lock.

4. Ski 2nd notch on east wall.
Check

5. Land backflip
Unfortunately I didn't attempt, just got the 360 dialed in before coronalockdown. Have been practicing on tramps, will stomp next season with some work this summer.

6. Learn and progress grabs
Didn't get there, still need to work on getting comfortable moving around in the air, etc.


Can't wait for next season.

I mostly progressed on mountain skiing. Got some mild sends at Brighton and snowbird. Really impressed myself with how much I’ve progressed, and what I will at least drop into.


Never got a chance to work on moguls like I really wanted too.

theabortionatorGoal that I didn't meet but wanna get another shot at was getting my spins back. Once I fucked my brain up and got into more of a no fall zone I stopped spinning for the most part. I'll spin off rails but I have this fear of jumps. Started a bit riding West back in the day on some whack ass death booters. Hoping to get all my 3s and maybe 5s back. I just need to lap some smaller jumps.


Road a good amount. Bummed on missing the spring park laps but got good spring laps in mid season.

Got all my 3's back. 1 of my goals was spinning 3 directions through jumpline. Got it but didn't have the 5s super dialed so was doing a 180 in there. Still felt a lot better. Got a bunch of switch stuff back. Back 3's off of rails and boxes(have only spun em frontside in recent years)

Sucks cause we just got snow. Were gonna build our smaller jumplines in the small and medium parks. They only had a single jump. I was getting my front 5s clean and grabbed, some mediocre back 5s, but all my 3s were pretty dialed.

Started spinning more last summer and felt good going into this spring. Sucks my summer season is donezo, but I'm ready to get back out next fall.

Outside of spinning bigger jumps, and doing rodeos/corks. This was one of my stronger seasons ever I think. Def scaled back even on rail size a bit but focused on getting tricks.

I'm getting older and more breakable, but I'm having a great time stepping things up gradually and riding smaller features if I'm having an off day. Was getting some decent air in the pipe again. Was looking to go a little bigger this spring, but next year.

Also first urban in 10 years the other day. Down rail at work. Not huge but fairly legitimate size. Kept it pretty mellow but first 1 back, and not trying to get wrecked with everything going on. Hit it a few times, got one sloppy shot and called er good enough.

Stoked for next season and hoping it's a good one.

More flexibility for enhanced grabbage
3s on lock, gotta get 3s early in the season so I'm not stuck doing 180s all year like last season
Backies on lock so I can throw them off cattracks too.
Try a frontflip
Hit skiers right broom closet
Switch 1s and butter 3s that look good
Maybe dubs or a rodeo if I really get comfortable on backies
Phat nollies off everything
Some more lines in get serious chutes
Air a 30 footer somewhere and ride out
Get more first tracks in the cirque, high baldy, pearly gates and others. having a gf last year really hurt me on this one
Have a great fucking time and not hurt myself

If I'm being honest this season was kind of a bust for me goals wise.

Landed a 3
Landed another backie
Got hurt early season and was out for a few weeks, then right after I hurt my back
Boots gave me a gnarly bone spur/haglunds deformity on my heel so I cant nollie anymore which I really love to do
Didn't attempt a frontflip because of said haglunds
Didnt hit ride side broom closet because of the back, and also watched my good friend Jack nearly blow his knee on it
I didn't get more flexible
I did ski more backcountry via bootpacks
Time to spend the summer getting strong and ready for next season. Bootfitter will hopefully help my haglunds and if that doesnt work, surgery next year. I really don't want to fuck with my Achilles though.
I do feel that given light, I can ski anything now, just had a lot of flat light this year.
Got better at a carve though which felt nice
Made a lot of new friends since no gf
Fucked up the Pdog and had a great time.
Any of you guys come out to snowbird next season, and I'll show you around!

DO SOME REAL WORK GETTING IN CARDIO SHAPE AND DON'T GET HURT THIS YEAR, ALSO GET FLEXIBLE

Work on 360s, backflips and skiing switch really well

Take a trip to somewhere, not sure where, maybe Canada if the border opens

Stomp rightside Broom Closet
Stomp Backie off the wave
Flux Capacitor
Forbidden Zone Straightline
Single the Hanging Bowl Double
High Speed Double on lock

Get 1st tracks on:

Baldy
Pearly Gates
Great Scott
Mineral

Hit some more cattrack gaps, I want blackjack again, feels godly riding away from that
Get into the backcountry a bit more, ski some low angle pow and learn to use beacon probe and shovel




Find cute girl who rips to shred with this year too

1. Improve my stance...This is my primary goal and I think everything will be easier because of it. I am 3 years into skiing from being a casual snowboarder and 26 so I learned pretty late. I think it's the #1 thing holding me back on my skiing. I just want to make skiing down the groomer look good/stylish... that's a funny goal but there it is. I've only played team & field sports, never balance sports like skate or blade and mostly end up in a defensive stance. From day 1 I'm going to focus on staying more "stacked" and upright. If anyone has any good vids or advice lmk I've just been watching pollard/candide/bentchetler/dylansiggers ski and thinking about body position.

2. Spins
- Hit more natural feature 3's
- More switch 1's
- Try switch 3s
- Land switch off a small->med size drop/cliff

3. Butters
- Switch butter 3 off cattrack
- bring my feet closer together on butter 3s
- butter 3 in pow not just off lips & cattracks

4. I love riding groomers switch so keep improving at that and get some nice hard switch carves.

4. Night ski an average of 1.5 times a week. Got a good set of people gonna make a covid pact and get up to Ski Bowl during the week nights. (I ski Sat-Sun cause I have a traditional M-F job)

5. Figure out how this season is going to work and make the most of it.

6. Have fun, stay healthy and make it to April & May for the best skiing of the year.

It’s been a thing for a few years myself but after a few tweaks and strains my knees sound like a chiropractors session on a fucked up back. Trying to be flexible and stronger by the skizn though and start off mellow.

Feeling more hyped then ever for this season!
Goals:
Ski hella weekdays now that I can.
Clean up my cork 7 and 5
Go up to cork 9 maybe 10
Take my rodeo, mistys, and flat spins off tramp onto snow.
Three swaps, more different spins on rails
Get better w hiring bigger jumps switch/ s cork 5.
Ski more all mountain so abar doesn’t call me a park rat

Here's my list:
-- Backflip a jump in the park (I got it down on backcountry booters so next step!)
-- Send some bigger cliffs, eyes on a thirtyish footer named "buckle your boots"
-- Do more backcountry/sled skiing, I got a setup so I'm psyched to do a bit more of this
-- 360 off a cliff, I have no clue why I haven't done this already
-- Get corked
-- Jump off the chairlift on a soft day, Idk why but sounds fun
-- become half-competent on rails, lets be real, I'm not a real NSer without being better on rails
-- frontflip
-- Hit some gaps, there is a chair on my mountain that never runs and there is some really good gap potential on the off-ramp there
-- Get better at skiing switch, I am total ass at this, and its embarrassing
-- Go fast as fuck down groomers

New biking trick list for when skiing is canceled for me because of weather or COVID

1. Tailwhip a 5 stair or greater
2. Full cab a 3 stair or greater
3. 180 barspin 5 stair or greater
4. Nollie onto a handrail
5. 540
6. Nose manual 10ft or more ledge
7. Don't break any bones

Checklist if COVID calms down:
1. get a lot of clips with my hometown boys over break
2. dub backie, preferably on something well-known at alta so i can /claim
3. get cork 7s on lock, with tail or safety
4. get flat 3s on lock with full japan lookin steezy
5. get sw cork 5s, cork 3s
6. get a misty 5
7. start charging bigger cliffs, not just roll up and drop off
8. get more comfortable with backies off larger cliffs
9. improve avy knowledge, read "Staying Alive in Avalanche Country", take another class if they open again.
10. tour more, find a group of people I trust in the backcountry
11. make sure to ski for the enjoyment of it, not just to get an adrenaline rush
12. get more comfortable doing mutes, tails, etc. on spins

Checklist if COVID fucks everything up:
1. play Steep
2. wait for Riders Republic to come out

Preseason:
1. Climb Ymir Peak 2396m in under 3 hours
2. stomp my basic tricks up to 720
3. Ski with new friends

Season:
1- learn and stomp the rodeo 5-7. Then take it to a cliff.
2- Land a spontanious backflip in powder.
3- Do another superman frontflip in deep pow. Feeling was unreal
4- Go to Terrace/Smithers and live in a camper for 2-3weeks.
5- Go to Big White and session the fuck out of the park to get good footage.
Nail the centerline couloir on North Wolfe Mt . And try to explore Buzz Ridge in the Kootenay Pass. Repeat the classics.
6- Explore Qua Creek, west of whitewater. Mountains look crazy.
7. Nail Airy Mt, 2300m. Thats a 8h hike to ski a landmark.

Moonstone has a sick park. Blue mountain has a well built park. Ontario skiing isnt easy

This season will be continuing on my goals from last season...
1. Rails. Work on getting past that mental block and try some skinnier flat rails. Try tubes. I have a yard now so I can build a setup so this should help alot. Work on both natural and unnatural side

2. Better 180s do 360s. I only got one 360 . gonna try for more

3. Improve switch. Self explanatory

4. Bigger jumps than the 2 ft beginner ones

5. Get creative!

6. Make more ski friends and ski with them. While to most this is a given, to me this is a big deal as I'm introverted and it takes me a long time to be comfortable around people. Last season I made several connections and hopefully this season be able to ski with them. It would sure help my progression
