Now that I have your attention....


I've only been on here for about 5 or so years, with the intention of just finding some cool ski content from either individual creators like you (other NS's) or rather big media groups to see a trailer for the next big movie. As Instagram has evolved and (IN MY OPINION) over-saturated the world with amazing ski content, the app has just blowing minds around the world 60 seconds at a time. Now, we only see the cream of the crop of what skiing has to offer to the world.

What I have yet to see is creative and inclusive discussions on our strategy to keep the sport we love alive(here on NS). I have yet to see people talking about ways that they are being more conscious about their emissions output along with their unnecessary consumption rates ( IE, buying plastic water bottle when you have a nalgene). No discussions about why the resorts close when they still have snow but rather complaining about their "LDOH depression".

As the oh so philosophical Future and Juice WRLD once said "talking it and doin it a differnent story", and this couldn't be more true in the realm of the ski industry.

We should be empowering each others with constructive ideas to not only better our experiences on the hill, but rather, what are the measures that must be taken to do so that we can even have the opportunity to ski/ride in the places we love.

This will probably be my biggest rant and it was definitely all over the place, but that's not what this is about. I just want other people to think. To engage thought and not provoke emotion, that is my goal from this----

So I hope you now feel empowered to either reply to this thread or make your own thread on an issue/idea/problem/solution you see in the industry and would like to be addressed.

The reason you don’t see posts about emissions is because the majority of active members here aren’t even old enough to drive and the only thing they care about is how they can get their next pack of juul pods and convince mommy and daddy to buy them on3ps

Kinda cool that Vail Resorts pledged to 0 net carbon footprint across all of their resorts by 2030. Big ups to them and hopefully they follow through with it. Working at a Vail Resort has encouraged me to recycle more and recycle correctly so that's pretty cool. Living in Tahoe has also inspired me to live like every action I do directly affects the environment around me. Upvotes to this thread for expanding minds, eh?

The best thing you can do to have an impact is just to stop eating beef. I've starting really limiting my intake of it over the past year and want to wean off totally because of the ecological impact it can have.

I’m all for emissions as I fear skiing disappearing in my lifetime second only to death , and I see it happening east coast , the snow here ant what it was 30 years ago , however I’m on this forum to learn more about skiing , the gear , meet people and have like minded discussions about skiing to get me through the summer I’m sure there are plenty of hippie forums for the other

Resorts close when there's still snow because the masses (millions of weekend warriors who only ski groomers) stop coming to the mountain so they're only losing money. It definitely sucks and I wish we could do something about it but we'd literally have to get all the 2-3 weekends out of the year skiers to become as dedicated to the sport as we are.

The most power you have to affect climate change is through voting. While individual efforts like low-emission diets or choosing public transportation are great personal choices, their positive effects are almost unmeasurable in the context of carbon emissions from corporations and governments. I'm not saying it's not worthwhile to consider your own environmental impact or how you can reduce it, but the number one way to try and keep our winters around is to vote in favor of candidates and propositions that support environmental conservation, not to buy a nalgene instead of a plastic water bottle.

Haven’t used a plastic water bottle in a year. Skate or ride my bike to work all summer and in the winter I live on campus and walk or skate to class. Living in RI I carpool every time I ski unless it’s a solo trip.

I listened to a radio show which characterized voting as the best personal strategy to affect climate change - While personal efforts reduce your own carbon footprint, voting for regulation and representation can affect the policy that dictates the carbon footprint of industries and corporations (the major contributors). I do not have a good source on hand to back this up so I’m happy to hear an opposite argument.

Government actions for development produce carbon emissions, though maybe it could fit under industry instead. For example, urbanization is a governmental goal in economic development. Urbanization requires construction and resources, often in the form of concrete and cement pouring, which is about 8% of all CO2 emissions (huge impact, airline travel only contributes 2.5%). god when i remember those movies i can taste the kool aid jammer in the back of my throat.
Air bud was a real cunt. I liked the primate, but i dont understand how a dog can play ball themed sports without puncturing the ball with his teeth. What a jackass. Probably fucked all the other dogs of his time over as well with all the kids wanting golden retrievers over the false promise they could slam dunk.
