How to motivate myself to do downhill longboarding again
I took a year off from college in Atlanta and came home to Chicago for the winter and spring this past school year. I started doing downhill longboarding last summer in hilly ATL and was having a lot of fun and progressing bit by bit. However in Chicago the nearest slide hill is like 45 minutes away and the garage 20 minutes away is pretty small and boring. I began to do aggressive inline when I wasn't skiing or dongboarding and rn I'm much more invested in that than dh longboarding. However, I still wanna continue doing it and progressing in the future. But hill bombing will be scary to me again the next time I try it. What do? If I wait until I go back to ATL I will be able to get to slide hills in minutes without a car, but I will be EXTREMELY rusty. But I have no desire to go out of my way to a slide hill now. Why? I gladly will travel to a skatepark, but not a slide hill? Idk what's up.

I was talking to a buddy about this and there seems to be a natural progression in longboarding. When you first get into it, you want to bomb all the biggest hills to get them under your belt. Then after a few bad falls, close calls, watching a friend get chewed up, you tend to back off a little and focus more on the fun chill aspect of longboarding. That is what I would suggest, just find some nice chill cruiser hills near your house and just enjoy being out there on your board, maybe get some new wheels and pony up for some Bones Swiss so you can float around.

I have a lot more experience than that and I currently skate to school every day so I'm still very used to being on a board. Hill bombing is still pretty scary to me right now since I haven't done a big hill in probably months. I think 20mph might even feel scary rn even though I've definitely surpassed that speed a ton. Anyway...What I really need rn is just motivation to go out of my way and skate a few hills before I go back to ATL so that I don't wreck myself.
P.S: Bones Swiss are a fucking waste of money. I have Zealous bearings, which cost 14 bucks, and they ride amazingly. Bearings are pretty much all marketing and paying more won't change much esp since Zealous exist for so cheap.

Wisconsin has my closest hill, but I live in Chicago right now.
You can only slide the same hill so many times before it get boring. The skatepark has almost endless possibilities so its harder to get bored. I gave up downhill a long while ago but its always a blast to get it back out and rip some hills with some friends

I mean you can still work your way up to bombing the whole hill, which I definitely can't do. And in the park I often hit the same ledges and take the same lines cuz I suck LOL. Both give me about the same amount of satisfaction, downhill is actually scarier though, at least right now since I haven't done it in a while.

Too bad you only have a slide hill and not a technical road like in the mountains of Colorado or California-northern LA and Malibu.

Also update: I live on a slide hill now and do dh like once a week, it's alright but I prefer aggressive inline. I need to go to some actual runs though right now. Dh gets boring when you're walking back up the hill.
