What GOOD college is near a mountain to ski

I am looking at colleges and am wondering about some potential colleges that are near some snow. Preferably a more selective college bc i actually am looking at majoring in engineering or business. Doesnt have to be next to a huge resort, just a mountain for local shredding thats close by.

Castleton VT. They have a business program, and its only about 45 min to Killington (35 if you know the back way). When I went there we had a park on campus too

As a CU senior I will admit this school is a fucking joke if you’re not in engineering. I would not consider CU a strong academic school.

Lol Minnesota guy here too. That's what I thought too when I heard about it. But the park guy there (lol guy not crew) is dedicated to it. They actually have a good little park. It's just enough to hold me over in between breaks. Plus it's probably a good thing it's not a mountain or something otherwise I wouldn't get any school done.

Im doing mechanical engineering at umass amherst, having mount snow an hour away is absolutely amazing and the engineering program is pretty good too

Whitefish, - 2.5 hrs
Maverick, 2 hrs
Blacktail, 2 hrs
Showdown,
Bridger bowl,
Big Sky, - all 3.5 hrs.

And its a tight town...


I second UMT! Its got good back country with decent access 20 mins from campus, its close to areas that get snow early in the year, and theres not much competition for out of bounds or back country powder. Plus a decent school in a town full of laid back people. All of this was shot within 2.5 hrs of the campus.

evaroniI have a bunch of friends who went to GOOD colleges so they could get GOOD jobs because that’s how you do GOOD in life. Seems like all they did was get GOOD at paying back loans.


I bet they have GREAT credit scores tho....

No, half the kids in the business school here are borderline illiterate. Most schools actually have a challenging ciriculum outside of engineering.

Aren't business majors are just people who want to party or couldn't hack hard sciences? I don't understand what else you'd expect

OP if you are just starting as an undergrad you don't need a selective school you just need a good school that other schools will take credits from. Any good community college will have an engineering or business transfer track and if you are undecided they can help you decide and get you started with your math and other core requirements for less tuition $$$.

No, business schools are usually pretty rigorous. None of my buddies on the east coast would say getting a finance degree is easy there. CU is just a joke. Are you in college yet?

Lol yeah man. There's no way you could tell me finance/accounting/etc is as hard as chem/ele/mech engineering. I was making a joke about business majors. CU has a very good engineering school - wouldn't consider it for business but I wouldn't consider a business degree in the first place. Just personal preference. Hope your degree works out for you even if the program sucks

I wouldn’t argue that they are as hard but at good schools the business program is far from easy like it is here at CU, like almost MBA level stuff. I would argue that a finance degree is more valuable than engineering though. There’s a much higher upside in finance than engineering in terms of salaries.

I agree, plenty of degrees that pay better than engineering, but you shouldn't choose a degree based on how much you think you'll be paid -should be about what you wanna do with your life, passions and whatnot.

To op, if you want the best schools and the worst skiing, go eastcoast. If you want good schools with the best skiing, go west.

I'd def recommend Colorado School of Mines if you're looking at Colorado as an option. Golden is an absolutely awesome town, the education is top of its class, and you're only an hour/hour and 30 mins away from the resorts (Loveland, Abasin, Breck, Keystone, Winter Park, Copper, Vail, etc...). It might be a little further than you're wanting but it definitely has the best of both worlds imo. I live in Golden and it's awesome

squaw - 50 minutes from UNR
northstar - 45 minutes from UNR
kirkwood - 1 hour and 30 minutes from UNR
also you forgot boreal - 45 minutes from UNR
and mt rose - 30 minutes from UNR

Do you go to UNR?

And idk I would say Northstar is 35ish from unr.

But obviously these times are super dependent on other factors. Squaw can go to 2hrs if you leave at the wrong time on a weejend pow day. Kirkwood can easily be 2.5 to 3 if it's snowing. Yada yada yada yada
