I bought a pair of Atomic Hawx Ultra 120s this week at Kuhtai — I’m still there. I like the boots a lot (best fit and ankle hold I’ve ever had, by far, out of the box), but after 3 days in them I’m thinking the 120 *may* be a little stiff for me; they’re certainly harder to flex than my 8 year old pair of Dalbello Kryptons that claimed to be 120. Jury is still out on whether I would be better in a less stiff boot.
The Atomic website says the Ultra 120s are adjustable +/- 10 flex points. You just add the second bolt to get to 130. But how do you reduce the flex, ie, to get to 110? I can’t find any information directly about doing this with the 120s.
The dealer here thought he should take out the lower bolt, remove the plastic plug from the upper bolt hole, and use the bolt from the lower hole plus a spare claw in the upper hole. That is, just have one bolt, in the upper hole.
But after reading a few threads, here and elsewhere, about the Ultra 130s, I’ve got my doubts (a) that you can reduce the stiffness at all with the 120s and (b) even if you can, that that’s the right way to do it.
Does anyone know? I’ve PMed onenerdykid but haven’t heard back (not complaining at all — he seems to have plenty of better things to do than wait around for messages here).
Thanks in advance
