Unlikely because they are probably a different length and different diameter, but if you have access to a spare type of both toes and testing machine it would be an interesting test.
Why don't you just set the 18 to piece to the desired (low) din? A 9 din on a 14 din binding should be the same as a 9 din on a 18 din binding for example
If you don't need the retention of the 18 then you're probably not that likely to need the durability either? Could try and find an old P15 toe in good condition?

i really do wish they'd make the 15s again (or the 14s, whatever) with the better toe piece
rossignol makes a 15 din world cup toe but I believe the minimum DIN is still 8. So probably it's an 18 spring and they just don't put the last few numbers on it?

Na just committed to the cast system and thought I could make it work on a 10 then after a few crashes and twisted ankles and knees went down to 8 and I'm still very cautious kinda want a 7 but cant find any reasonable old fks 155
I’ve got an extra pair of both so why not. There’s another shop that has two piece jigs so maybe I’ll go for it. Slap the fks heel jig with the Sth toe and boom. ahahaha

It’s called a jigarex. Just have to google it. But you can slap all sorts of different plates on. I recently had to remount one heel piece and was hoping I wouldn’t have to take the toe piece off in order to fit the full size jig. Instead we used the jigarex and the heel plate just managed to be short enough and didn’t have to take the toe off.
Definitely. Im not wholly serious but it’s a novel concept. Once I have another trashed pair of skis I’ll try it for theory but won’t actually ride it. I care about my acls
Totally fine to pop the spring out a 14 and put it In a metal toe. Did it with some fks155’s with some really worn out springs that weren’t releasing till a din of 17.
I would definitely bring a sixer to your local shop and ask someone to function test them to your preferred din since the numbers won’t make any sense

So you put a 14 spring in one of the old metal pivot 15s? No problems? Did you have an old pivot 14 setup or how did u get a spring?
SofaKingSickWhat do you like about the sth2 toe more than the pivot toe (and which one?)?
I like it the best because it’s wraps around the toe the most, has wing adjustment, has toe height adjustment/wtr, has rubber dampeners, has steel housing, and last but not least the most elasticity.

I just assumed you had a box of pivot parts laying around. If you don’t have a “fks shit” box it’s not really worth it to go out and find 2 springs. Do at own risk of injury or death
Also for sure you are 100% fine in the plastic toe if don’t din into the 18

Just has the best bomber feel to me.
Sth2 toe > all other toes IMO
Thanks. I swore off Salomon bindings (besides old 916s I guess) a long time ago so I was ignorant of some of that. People speak really highly of the STHs tho
Turns out I was wrong, springs are the same size. Px18 toe left, p14 toe right. Almost no shop would help you out with this or mount a binding you switched the springs on, but if you are friends with the shop it might be doable.

This is a serious question: Would the shop be able to tell that you switched the springs out? Other then it just seeming like the dins are way off? Like it would be something they discover only when they go to do the binding release check, and at that point the skis are mounted

Nope, other than the toe din reading like 16 when the heel is set to 10 or something similar to that. They would probably fail the bindings and not tell you what the toe was actually releasing at Abd that would be really hard to figure out what the din actually was without testing it on the machine.

Do u buy chance have a pivot 15 toe u can get a spring out of an compare

The p15 and p18 toes are the same with different springs, should be exactly the same size. Even a p12 spring would probably fit intp either a p18 or p15 toe. Also its the same toe as a bunch of the newer race bindings have.
15s came out today there purple and yellow . I want orange 🍊
CatdickBojanglesSo you just run an 18 toe piece and a 14 heel piece? Why? Also the 15s come back next year so this thread can be solved by just buying 15s now.
