PSA: Feed your ski techs!

Ski techs are the unsung heroes on the hill - they keep us shredding when the equipment goes haywire and they work tirelessly on countless boards and skis all day. Feeding them snacks always goes a long way.

This is a habit I’ve always adhered to when getting new gear mounted. My shop usually has a 24-48hr turnover time depending on what jobs they have in the queue, and today I needed a mount job when everyone and their mother needed a Christmas gift to be mounted.

I rolled in with a dozen donuts and a box of coffee because I knew I was adding to the pile of work on a really busy day. Ski techs were beyond stoked to have food and coffee and 30 minutes later I was out the door with a quality mount job done with a 50% discount.

Feed your techs and/or caffeinate them! It’s what keeps them going on hectic tech bench days!

Lol donuts. A 24 rack of pbr for a free mount is what I'm used to. Then u tip with a second 24 for overnight service and to differentiate yourself from all the other beer trading skids.

It sucks how little money the resort makes trickles down to the employees who make it happen. I guess thats what happens when everybody and their south american cousins are lining up to work for such low wages because it sounds glorious to work at a resort. Im a libertarian but i do think min wage should be upped to 15 an hour. Otherwise you pretty much have to sell drugs to make an effective income. Maybe if resorts werent taxed so hard by government they could hook it up. If our government was a model of a human being that human would weigh 100 pounds and have a 200 pound tumor hanging of its ass stealing the blood supply from the brain because the tumor cells claimed the brain cells werent paying their fair share.

I'm a tech and can confirm / support this PSA. If anyone marches into the shop with a 24, their skis are getting worked on right away.

Other good ski tech gifts:

- hot rotisserie chicken
- weed
- clothing / swag
- homemade baked goods

You never know if your tech is gonna be 21 or not and management sometimes frowns heavily on having booze around, just depends.

Also booze early in the morning is ehhh

I thought everyone knew about this? Beer works much better btw.. Other options are redbull or a pack of gatorades. If you have a good relationship with the shop, call ahead and ask how many people they got on and that way you have enough for all. Not only take care of the tech doing the work but the person doing the write up would appreciate it as well.

Coffee and donuts works good enough but should be reserved for car service centers instead.

So when Vail Resorts saved 40 million dollars in taxes this year their shareholders dividends increased by 40 percent and the employees wages went up from 11 dollars an hour to $12.25/hr. Poor people shouldn’t blame the government for their employers paying them dirt wages, it doesn’t actually work out in real life that way.

Also, just as a side note if you think the minimum wage shouod be higher you aren’t a libertarian. If you believe in the concept of a minimum wage existing at all you aren't a libertarian, but nice try.

This is our opinion as outsiders, but I've never met a Vail employee who was willing to talk down on the business aside from those who had been fired. EpicPromise, a chance to live in Breck in employee housing, discounts at resorts, full Epic pass, etc.

If you love the job and the mountain you'll make it work, and from my experience meeting many employees, be really grateful during that time.

Sorry but I believe the un-sung heros are the snowmakers as this year I'm snowmaking at Afton Alps working 14 to 15 hours all the way thru the night
