In 2014 I tore mine in November, did tons of PT and skied with a custom brace (insurance paid for 80%) all the way up till the day before my surgery. Was exactly 10 months between surgery and first day back skiing, for sure could have pushed it and gone earlier but I wanted to be back skiing as hard as I was and not like some senile.
Best advice is absolutely destroy PT, when cleared to run... start running (they will give you a return to run program in most cases I think) and get used to pounding and lactic acid again and see if insurance can cover brace, gave me tons of confidence and you won't feel like a baby giraffe trying to walk for the first time your first time out. That's what I found helped me I'm sure a lot of people are anti brace tho. Best of luck dude!
