What is the fastest run at your resort? How fast can you go?


Also, whats the fasest run in North America? I'd like to straight line it one day

Aspen holds a contest every year, course record is about 120 mph.

We used to have a GPS we would screw around with and I have hit about 60 mph back in the day on some groomers at my home mountain. Even a normal ski jacket basically becomes a parachute at that speed and the wind tries to rip your helmet off if you have a visor, it makes you appreciate the speed suits the downhill guys use. The wind noise is really loud too, even if you have music blasting you just hear the roar.

there is an alpine run at my local that is crazy steep. i don't think anyone could really straight line it properly since it's super sketchy at the bottom where there are some humps. if they were removed you would still have to brake and be able to make quite a sharp turn. if you don't make the turn you will fly off into the parking lot and die. would be cool to see some idiot do it though.

North face at alyeska. you can get off the tram, then ski all the way down to the bottom. Hella steep too.

inb4 this thread turns into people posting speeds they think they went because an app told them so.

I'll preemptively respond: No, no you didn't go that fast. Olympic skiers with speed suits, proper racing skis, and perfect waxing skiing on downhill courses that would make you piss yourself don't even go that fast. There is no way in hell you reached that speed on floppy 170 park skis with baggy outerwear on a 300 ft vert pitch.

Gotta be regulator at snowbird, on a groomer day I've straightlined it, if I had to guess I'd put my speed somewhere between 60-70 since I was on unwaxed untuned skis

I just tried one of those ski tacker apps on Sunday and apparently 33mph is terminal velocity. You cannot ski faster even in a free fall

timed 2 min going down cornice express last season at kirkwood. ive seen it done at around 1 20 by a no shirted madman on a board with no helmet. just expecting to hear he died any day now
