etastetYes, they literally took it away from me physically. It was Wednesday, so, it’s been the rest of the week I’ve seen activity. The safety manager told me he would reach out to me with next steps, he hasn’t. Each time I call, it goes to VM. So, you think if I go back up and talk to patrol they can arrange it? If I went to claim it was stolen, how do we verify if it is being used?

etastetSo, I messed up! I crossed a line, and was busted. Nothing crazy, not even speedy. Just literally crossed over and went back. They pulled me! However, one guy seemed to be cool and was letting me go, until his buddy get huffy. I told the guy to calm down. That’s when it got pulled. Now, the safety manager isn’t giving me next steps. Additionally, I’ve noticed, through my epic mix app, that my pass has been used all week?? Seems bizarre. Every time I call, the bottle neck goes to the safety manager, EVERY TIME.

Does anyone know how I address this? Who is above him? What is the appeal process? Is it possible they just kept my pass on their pocket and it looks like I’ve skied all week?

SkiBum.Because other mountains don’t hire a squad just to enforce pointless rules. Other mountains have their patrol enforce laws just fine. Vail wastes their money chasing down kids going to fast. How about get rid of yellow coats and put that money towards employee housing or a normal wage? Wouldn’t that be something. The day entire mountains lift opps strike for better wages or unionize like patrol will be great. Can’t wait.

I could write a book on why I don’t support those clowns.

finderMy home mountain will perma-ban anyone for using a stolen pass. Not sure how vail deals with it, but if the yellow jacket was skiing with their buddy that they were loaning your pass to, the resort should fire him. Good luck dude, hope you get your pass.

Also, if you are gonna duck ropes, make sure to enter/exit without skis on. That way you may be able to argue that you went to take a piss and weren't breaking any rules. If they actually see you skiing though, they're still gonna take your pass.

DesertStixMy mountain just got 3 feet over the weekend but they haven’t opened anything yet even though it’s blanketed. Like beginner terrain only and a measly 3 feature mini park. I can see from top to bottom on some roped off runs with at least 16-18 inches of fresh powder.

It’s the most aggravating feeling in the world waiting months for snow just to see mounds of it in front of your face with a big orange rope stopping you.

I’m contemplating just poaching some of them but threads like this got me scared of being kicked out/banned. We don’t have “yellow jackets” per se but there are patrol who would be HEATED if I was skiing out of bounds, I just never see it happening here because there aren’t opportunities like this 3 foot dump. It’s pretty unheard of for beginning of December here.

So, given the weather circumstances, you think ski patrol would pull my pass for being out of bounds in powder heaven?

50KalYou realize most ski patrol doesn't care if you want go somewhere in the BC and drop whatever lines you see safe. It's your choice. Go anywhere it's public land. Make your own choices in the uncontrolled terrain your putting yourself in.

But when you step onto any ski resort they have the right to pull your stupid ass for ducking ropes on the terrain they manage. They have decide it UNSAFE FOR A REASON, even if you can't see it.
Only fucking fools think "hey no tracks, must be dope ASF!!!" only after ducking the rope to find out it slides or there's rocks the size of people just beneath the snow. Now some ski patrol has to go and pull your broken ass or dead body out of roped off area that was already marked as hazardous, there by jeopardizing themselves or their season because you wanted the pow and decided to make a dick move. Especially this early in the season when the snowpack is still just starting build.

Just wait til ski patrol opens it. Not worth it when you have a whole season to look forward to.

dizzydizzyTerrible advice, I would never ski with someone that knowingly ducks ropes into closed terrain unless I was skiing in the midwest or east coast. Ducking ropes on proper west coast resorts in the US or Canada (i.e. places that control for avalanches) is incredibly dangerous and in many cases a serious criminal offense

theabortionatorWell a big one is the difference of top to bottom. I've seen people duck ropes for "pow". Alright to questionable at top, and then mid way thin, then farther down basically dirt. One of those goes to show you never really know why it's closed.

Really best not to duck ropes unless you know the mountain well and even then it can be dicey.

OregonDeadTrue. But not knowing when or if the authorities care is IMO a Jerry move. At Mt. Hood the different ski areas have very different attitudes and practices about how they enforce their rules.

theabortionatorThat case sucked. Honestly I can understand the paralysation cases better than wrongful death in these situations. When somebody is paralyzed, the medical bills are out the ass, and many people have no choice but to sue. If the persons dead, they're fucking dead. It sucks. 13 is way to early to go, but playing the blame game gets whack. You shouldn't have to rope every possible access point to climbing uphill imo. Maybe adding some more sings(i can't remember how it was marked in this case) but fuck.

Idk, no amount of money is going to bring their kid back. It sucks but that's the truth. If you run a skatepark and somebody eats shit and dies on a perfectly standard setup, is that your fault? I get it, grief and shit, but if we nerf everything there will be no fucking freedom left in this world. And generally hiking up into closed terrain even if it's not marked from the bottom is a hell know.

But yeah, if they lose things will get even shittier. There are still several major ongoing park cases at various resorts. Idk. Hoping they can find some way to get rid of it or legitimately show liability. If a down rail landed in a pit full of dirty needles that's different than somebody straight lining at 50 mph into a 12 foot jump. If there's massive negligence, I get somebody being held responsible, but the idea that "id this or that didn't happen my son would still be alive" is fucking bullshit.

A girl got killed by a car near me in NY. They added an extra mile of 45 mph and now a traffic light that isn't even near the accident scene. That didn't make anything safer, it didn't bring their girl back, but it brought them comfort crusading. I get it, I can't hate on it, but it's whack as fuck and didn't do anything but waste time and money.

People can't accept the fact that shit happens. Sometimes in the best case scenarios shit happens. But sure, sue everybody for everything. That will solve all your problems.
