Is zig zag worth the purchase?
Level 1 has released some sick movies in the last few years some notably better then others but still excellent overall. Is zig zag worth the purchase?
I'll personally Venmo a full refund to anyone that buys ZIG ZAG and doesn't think it was a good use of their $.

You’ve made that point very clear, but this movie is nothing like our last 3. Also, plenty of talent offering different styles in skiing... don’t have to look very far.

I just think that your older movies took a lot more creative and stylistic risks. High Five had a super strange soundtrack. Long Story Short had the whole rube goldberg machine thing. Real Time has a crazy unique format. I remember watching Henrik's part in Refresh and thinking "what the fuck am I watching this guy's shirt is so big." After Dark had the weird intros. After that, it kind of becomes a blur for me. The soundtracks all seem super similar (why is there always french music?). Consistency is often a good thing, but at this point I think you've become too consistent.
I also would like to say that I have a ton of respect for Level 1, you're the only company in the game that I watched growing up that I still watch today. MSP, PBP, and TGR all became stale a lot more quickly. I'm just getting concerned Level 1 might be heading down the same path.
Why not make a 2 year project? Why not make a film that features only women skiers? Why not film a treeskiing/BC segment on the east coast? Why not make a movie where the titles aren't just some fancy graphic design thing?
First of all, Zig Zag was dope so you should buy it. Second of all, how are you going to binge watch all the Level 1 movies twice a year if you don't buy it?

This is a much better elaboration. To answer a couple things:
We are never going to make a movie that matches the feelings of when you viewed one in 2005, or 2011 for that matter. The perception will never be the same as it was then.
ZigZag features one of our best crews ever (IMO) in the modern era, and the skiing matches. The movie is a no-frills delivery system for that, and I think it delivers.
I feel ya on the French music.

A tree skiing segment on the East is a dope idea. I’ve personally wanted to do this in past years, but with the way the winter works there, you have to be East Coast based most of the season to do it justice.
An all women film is another good idea, but have you met our crew? Someone will eventually do this (well).
Familiarity breeds contempt, I suppose.
This upcoming season will be Level 1’s 20th annual film anniversary. And possibly the last of a traditional feature style offering. We are going to make it as special as possible, without dwelling in nostalgia.

Are sales really that low that you are considering to stop making a traditional ski movie?

No. Its more to do with trying more diverse ways of making stuff, and being less tied to the annual cycle of a feature film.

Yeah I’d say it’s worth the buy
It wasn't bad, but I didn't find anything about it to be especially memorable. So, no regrets on the purchase but it probably just depends on your financial situation.
Josh, great work man. I really enjoyed Zig Zag start to Finish. Full of bangers and not one slow section. Athletes killed it, shots were beautiful-- just what I needed to get back in winter mode.

When I first saw dollo ski I literally could not handle the steeze, grew to love it though
I'm not level 1's biggest fan so take this with a grain of salt, but I didn't find myself wanting to watch it again besides a couple segments

Parker White made this movie worth purchasing alone I fuckin love that guy.
Segments were bangers though I really enjoyed watching it on a projector while eating some pizza with the crew. I digged the switch back to a more ski porn style cause the heavy narrative of the last couple Level 1 movies affects rewatchability imo.
Overall I liked it though, but I feel the song choices were very "safe". Not very many ambitious or more experimental pieces it was very chill I guess.
Haven’t seen zig zag yet but already intend on purchasing it. And as far as a 20 year movie I would love to see an og park segment. Marion, vanular, wallisch, henrik, Coker, Colby west, Spriggs, Steele Spence, sterbenz and even John Symms. And whoever I might’ve forgotten or missed. Like a huge sendoff ender segment.

Felt pretty underwhelmed watching this film after hearing all the stoke it got at IF3.
I think Level 1 is in a sort of search for what their identity is in the industry. They cant do new wave as well as kids on instagram and the movies that get released for free on here. They try to do interesting things like the segment with the water but it just plays out like a barely memorable Traveling Circus episode. Then you have Parker White shredding some gnarly backcountry but it just doesnt hold up against TGR and Matchstick's insane powder porn or even P-Whites past segments/solo films. I respect Level 1 as the last true production company born out of the golden era of newschoolers, combining park shoots, urban, and powder segments but they are being pulled in too many directions and in the highly specialized current industry they need to either do crazier shit or deliver content in a more accessible way.

This is very true. With Movies like Pallet and Banged Up releasing for free I don't see how they can compete.

But noooo I thought that was legit so good. I know it’s a matter of preference but I feel like Sami’s creation for that segment was way more involved and awesome than LTC. Not that LTC is lacking by any means, it was just really sick how involved the L1 setup was.
