Hello. My name is Sean.
I'm currently located in Northern California. In this area, I have spent most of my touring the North Lake Tahoe area on Rose/Tamarack/Relay Peak, and Castle Peak zones. Silver Peak in Olympic Valley, and Donner Pass on occasion.
Even though I've spent many years in Tahoe, Oddly enough, the majority of my backcountry experience has taken place in New Zealand, Australia, and on Mt. Shasta and in the Siskiyous of Southern Oregon. I have been touring since 2012, but have really been getting into it within the last 2 seasons. I am AIRE level 1 certified since Spring of 2013, and I do my darndest to keep up on any and all literature I can in regards to safety and what potential hazards to keep watch for. You can never have enough knowledge.
I use an ARVA 240 probe, that I intend to replace before the season, a BD Evac 9 spade, and an ARVA Link Beacon. I wear a Mammut Light 30L Airbag. I have about 5 or 6 different touring setups, depending on the snow conditions (I have bad Gear Acquisition Syndrome) I both Telemark as well as Alpine Tour.
This year I would like to start exploring more into the Tahoe backcountry. Make some trips to Benson hut, get into Desolation Wilderness, finally ski Mt. Tallac, and get into Yosemite for some early and late season skiing. Would be more than keen on a trip up to Shasta and Crater Lake if Tahoe gets skunked with a drought year. I want to improve my knowledge further, and make new friends in the area.
For a touring partner, I'd like someone with some adequate experience, and knowledge, who not only pushes me to improve, but also isn't going to bitch to me when I am not confident with the conditions. I want someone with good decision making abilities too. I don't want to have to save your life because you decided to enter some terrain trap because "just send it" or something dumb. I also wouldn't mind having someone totally green on my team, so long as they are willing to learn on their own time, pay attention, and COMMUNICATE. Super important, that last one. Lets work at the same pace, and be a good team.
