Not true.

And this wasn't done in the middle of the event. The format would have been changed the evening before the event in a team captains meeting with input from all of the nations present. I know most of the coaches that would have been in that meeting and they wouldn't have let the format be changed if it obviously favoured one athlete.

If you've ever actually been at a competition where Kelly was competing you would know that the "best 2 of 3" actually favours Kelly more than best of 3.

Bottom line, done call out shit you know nothing about

How does a format for all athletes favor one athlete? I'd say best of 3 makes the contest more fair because consistency is rewarded over one girl doing a right 7 and a dub.

Yea i dont know about that... if anything that format will hurt kelly sildaru more than the other girls. She has all her tricks both ways, but no dubs (that we know of). A single dub will out score even her best trick, switch right 9 or switch right 10...

Isn't this the direction big air is going in general, if you consider the snowboard big air at Olympics? I would guess ski is going to follow so they have a qualification path where the format matches the Olympics probably.

Any idea if other snowboard big air events have gone to 2 out of 3 jumps?

Don't get my wrong i don't like that direction at all, but i doubt there is a Kelly conspiracy...

Wow you actually have no idea what you're talking about.

Kelly got 2nd, not first. Anastasia Tatalina won - and would have won either way with her sw bio 900 safety. If it were best of two, Tatalina had a better variation and still would have won even if Kelly had landed a 2nd. That said the pressure to go big in Best One did not favor her.

Everything Pipe_Munky and SteveStepp said nailed it although none of the women had a dub in their bag.

Here's the real thing: Eric Z is head of competition. If Z is running the show you know it's legit.

You can badmouth FIS on a lot of things, but implying a comp that Z runs is is anything but 100% fair to the athletes just highlights how little you know. If anything props to FIS for letting Z and the AFP have greater influence in the direction of these events.

no, but why was the women's ski format different from other big air competitions at the WJC? men's ski competitions and big air men's and women's snowboard competitions were 2 best of 3 jumps ?

According to the ICR of the FIS it has two format allowed for the final, the Best of 2 or the Best 2 of 3 jumps ..

By the way, yes all the competitions of FIS junior and senior world championships plus all the World Cups are now sanctioned by AFP.

WJC is Gold event and Big Air World Cup is Platinium for Winter Game NZ

There's been some shitty weather at Cardrona this week so weather always plays a factor in comp format. They could have moved to best of 3 in order to get a final result. Once all athletes get one run completed, the rules state that you can have a result.

I dont understand why you are so worked up about this.... why didnt we see you start a thread about Valeriya Demidova being an OAR discretionary athlete in womens Pipe Pyongyang? She technically didnt have a spot because Russia was banned, but FIS/OIC recognized that she should be able to compete under the OAR. Seems hypocritical

It's two different situation, and the athlete who participated in the Olympic respected the quota.

And I confirm that Kelly has suck well FIS, she will participate in the competition of the big air world cup.
