Honestly makes me want to go bananas like THALL in his latest rant. The only negative people in skiing are dinguses who think too highly of themselves & their "style", and they looooove to complain about how comps and the olympics are ruining the sport. They gobble it up. Never heard a comp skier talk shit on film skiers. These dinglebats are the people who ruin skiing with their negative attitudes and copycat styles that are either stuck in 2010 wearing XXXXL still or copy anything Magnus or Wabs rock.
If you don't like it, don't watch it. I promise the Olympic committee and Mark Gaper won't sneak into your house and take a shit in your ski boots.

I think another reason comps get a lot of hate is because for most of us In the Midwest or east, USASA is like the only way to compete. And it’s incredibly gay. You pay like 80$ or something to become a member, and then sometimes additional fees per comp, all to compete against nobody because fucking nobody does this shit. There’s always some young kid at my hill who does it because he’s obsessed with the idea of “going to nationals”. There are no good comps left. Even local rail jams have become shit over the last 5 years
Park skiing is not a sport.
It's not that its wack, some sick shit is done at comps it's that it's too bureaucratic and full of red tape nonsense. The FIS and Olympic committees suck the fun out of everyhting.
I hate comp skiing because it is unapproachable unless your parents are loaded, and willing to throw all the money in the world at you. I think that comps are ruining the sport because kids don't see the tricks that being thrown in comps and thinking "mom I want to try park skiing." Film skiing is what make park skiing seem approachable to the youngsters. This was my experience at least. I never wanted to try park skiing because all I had seen was Xgames and then some buddies showed me some park movies and vids and I instantly wanted to try.

Well the point I'm trying to get across is that the people who constantly bash comps are whack. I agree that comps are repetitive, that you can't truly judge skiing as a tangible thing, and that it is becoming closer & closer to a true sport. But none of that affects anybody except the people who are in the comp. So the only negative thing coming out of this are the people who make this a negative thing by complaining about something that has zero correlation to themselves when they go ski for themselves. Oystein Braaten getting a gold and Teal Harle getting screwed off the podium has no affect on what I'm going to do on the mountain. There is so much happening in skiing and so much content being produced outside of contests that you can focus on, that to say that comp skiing is ruining skiing is an absurd idea because comp skiing only affects the people in the contests.

It is perfectly acceptable to point out the flaws in competition.
Ya I was A USSA coach, and training to be a judge, but the things you have to look for while judging are completely ridiculous, as well as way dated. Both a backflip and a 360 are scored as a 360. I’d imagine they could not properly score rodeo or bio. They as well still use the term “dinner roll.”

that isn't a real point when all the content creators are living soup can to ramen and living in a van because all the .50 cents that companies put into skiing goes to comp skier and supporting the person that might make it on the podium, and even then they have shown they will only support after the skier has success, ie people with go fund me to the Olympics ect ect.
if you are into comp skiing great, i like to see people preforming under the intense pressure of that environment as well but you can't deny the criticism when it is valid.
I have no clue. I try not to have shit eating grin every time I'm on my skis, but I can't help it.
Comps as a whole are a good time to me, pushing yourself with other kids you know is awesome and landing a run feels great. Only problem with comps are who they're run by, judging, and the occasional assholes from teams being all serious and mean. Also if everyone relaxed with the corks it'd be nice, literally every decent amateur run at usasa nationals ends with right cork 7, left cork 9, switch 9/10, bring back rodeos and bios in comps for fuck sake.

Comp's are cool... I'm just over the big-air spin to win 'aerials' nonsense.
I'd much rather watch a local railjam - which is really all we had back in the early 2000's before the olympics and all that.
The freeride tour is pretty entertaining, though. Watching it live is even crazier.
