finderThe reason skis have tiny grooves is to prevent suction on the snow. Older skis had to have massive channels running down the bases, and I'm guessing it would be harder to avoid suction for metal bases. Not the worst idea ever, considering the only place skiers usually bust edged under foot, so maybe like a 1cm edge would work under foot, but it would be really expensive to make edges like that and even more expensive to make them one solid piece, which would either require specially made edges or welding. I want to see fully plastic skis with maybe metal stiffeners running down the ski, which would cut down costs of fiberglass and pressing, and could be mass produced to be affordable for less privileged skiers. Just my probably crazy idea but it might not be so crazy eventually.
