So I'm looking at the Armada ARV 86. I can't decide between the 163 and 170. I am 5'7" 150lbs. Intermediate/advanced type III skier. Never used twin tips before. The skis i've used before were Head Instincts at 170 and they felt a bit cumbersome. The other skis i used were some other Head rental skis at 163, i felt more nimble and I had more fun. Also had no problems at speed going down the blacks.
How much difference is the twin tip and rocker combination going to make? Will the 163’s feel much shorter? Especially closer mounted to center? Probably -2cm back.
I’m interested in trying to get into the park. As of right now my typical skiing is on hardpack, looking for every jump i can find. I don’t care as much about top speed, but I want to be able to handle some occasional charging. The runs here are just not that long so i like to try and take my time and play around rather than fly down and get back in line.
Oh also I’m in North Carolina, skiing sugar and beech mountain mostly. So no powder. 86 is all mountain for me. Realistically going about 1 or twice a month.

Armada ARV 86 first twin tip sizing
I would go with the 170cm and center mount if you’re looking to do some park
I'm actually the same height as you 5'7" but 145 lbs, so we're almost the same. I bought the Armada ARV 96 in 170 cm, which is about our height. I consider myself to be between intermediate/advanced and going to start park skiing. I talked to the Armada staff and they said 170 would be perfect for me because the skis have a rocker profile at tip and tail which will ski much shorter than a fully cambered 170. I haven't rip these guys on the mountain yet but this is just based on what they told me. Oh yeah, I mounted my bindings at -2.5 mark.
170 in twin tips, especially ones with rocker are going to feel way shorter than 170 in non-twin tip skis that are mounted further back. There will be much less ski in front of the binding. Go with the bigger size
Alrighty boys well I did it. Got the 170s with some Attack 11 bindings headed my way. Hopefully just in time for some snow next weekend.

How much were the attack 11s? Do you really really really value wight savings? The overwhelming opinion here is that the attack 13 is the best value in bindings right now. I have a set and love them, I'm also mounting a set of 11s on my wife's skis right now, she values the weight reduction highly and won't need a din higher than 8 or so.

I got the 11s for $100. I really don't see myself needing to go past 11. So I'll save that extra money for my next lift ticket
