I have am looking for a powder ski that is comparable to my old Rossi S7's I have a pair of Soul 7's and they are not the same I keep going back to the S7's.. I am thinking of the DPS wailer 112 or the Atomic Automatic maybe the 109 or 117 not decided yet.. I need something for steep tight tree turns that can also get me to the lift on the groomers.. I know it's a lot but any recommendations
The Soul 7 is a soft flexing, light, easy to turn powder ski that is a does okay in soft snow but suffers greatly when it hits harder snow or crud. The HD versions are better due their stiffer flex but still aren’t as substantial as your S7 were. The S7 still weren’t the greatest on harder snow or crud either so improving on them won’t be an impossible task for you.
The DPS Wailer 112 are light, stiff, touring type skis that favor soft snow and like your Soul 7 aren’t the greatest on harder snow and aren’t very playful. In that class of ski, the Head Kore 117 are similar weight but are more playful, more damp and better on harder snow.
The Atomic Automatic series or their newer and improved replacement Backland series would be much more similar to your S7 in flex and feel but with improved groomer, crud and hard snow performance. Would be great in trees with the 109 being quicker responding in tighter spots than the 117. Think you’d be happy with the 109.
Other skis that you should consider along with the Atomics would be the Nordica Enforcer 110 and the Blizzard Rustler 11. Both do well in powder and all mountain with forgiving flex patterns similar to the S7. Both fun, playful skis that do most things well.
