Buttering in Big Boots

I’m on a pair of ON3P magnuses (usually not hard to butter on) and I cannot nose butter for the life of me. My shoe size is a 10.5 but my boots are a 29. When I lean forward my heels immediately go to the back of the boot and it feels super wierd and restricting. I’m on full tilt classics and it just seems like whenever I lean forward, all of the lean goes into the boot, not the ski. Are my boots too big or the skis too stiff, or am I just not leaning enough?

Do your heels lift up from the sole of boot when you flex forward? If so, your boots are too big. Your toes should also be touching the end of the boot standing flat footed

yeah that sounds like you need a better pair of boots, however, that shouldn't really affect your ability to butter it out too much as your heel will eventually stick to something.

My personal take is on the pair of magnuses, have you tried skiing them into a ditch and making a thread about it? getting a new pair could help as i feel like those are defects.

Yes then they are too big. I’ve been riding them since late November, would it be too late to take them Into a shop so they can put padding in them or something?

Just for reference my shoe size is 10.5 or 11 and I am in 27.5 boots. I've seen this vary hugely from brand to brand but if your feet are moving like that your boots are too big

Definitely, had the same thing and buttering would be both difficult and painful. New boots and now its much better as well as many other benefits. I'm a 12.5 and wear size 28.5 boot

Need snug fitting boots to do good butters but in saying that the liners will move a bit regardless because they are not rigid.

Boots too big. I wear 11 and in 27. I could probably even go a little smaller but i like my toes.

Your boots should never be bigger than you shoe size which i'll bet is still too big. get new boots asap.

I wear a size 13 shoe but ski a 29.5 boot. I can butter just fine so your boots are probably to big or you just don't know how to butter.

Op you know your boots are too big or you wouldn't have put Big Boots in the subject line. Size 10.5 street shoes are way too small for me and size 29 boots are a little too big for me. Sounds like the fit is too far off for you to be able to correct it with boot fitting pads so you'll be best off buying new boots and selling the pair you have.

def sounds like your boots are too big. ski boots are kinda like cleats, they need to be really snug to optimally perform

if new boots are out of the question (theyre super expensive... i havent gotten new boots in ten years) then sometimes you can slightly help the situation by wearing extra socks and/or a booster strap. some on here will tell you the sky will fall if you wear two pairs of socks but it's the only thing that's kept my boots useful for years now

it's like a slightly elastic, strong strap you can use to squeeze a tiny bit more energy transmission out of your boots. i absolutely love mine

Boots are too big.
Also its going to take more to butter than just leaning forward unless you have noodles.

your heels should be in the back of the boot all the time when you're skiing because you should always have forward pressure on your tongues. sounds like you're swimming in those things big time. im an 11.5 in vans skiing 27.5 b&es. if it's painful to have your heel all the way back in the boot they might be the wrong boot for you anyway, or you just aren't used to feeling having your boots feel snug.

won't "solve" it but could def help tighten things up and keep the energy transmission from body to ski better than it would be without. just a bandaid suggestion, really, because i know that "buy new boots" is the optimal solution but $$$$$$$

I’m a 10.5 and my classics are 27.5. And not gonna lie I could probably pull off a 26 with stretched liners

I wear a 13 and wear a 28.5 FT high five. My heels lift up too, actually almost tore my Achilles’ tendon because of it. Nose butters are impossible and I have Vishnu wets. Don’t know if I’ll be able to afford new boots this year or not but would like to get fitted at a really nice shop and get the best boot for my foot regardless of brand or look

Your boot size should be one or two sizes smaller than your reg shoe get an intuition liner and smaller boots and you'll be locked in
