This. Talk to your local shops. That's what's going to help the most. Local shops help out the mountains in the region because those people are going in to buy gear, tunes, mounts, whatever.

Unless you have some ins with companies, or it's a big enough established event, most companies won't care. And if they care, it's probably not enough to justify the $ of sending product.

Cash prize is always good to get some people out. If you can get a few things from a local shop, maybe get a few things from the mountain, and a little bit of $ that's a pretty solid deal.

Contact them asap. Get on good terms with them. Make your events decent. If they give you banners or flags to put on course, make them look nice. If you make an edit of the comp, show it to them so they know what the event looked like, that it was a lot of fun, that their banners were set up nicely and visible. Also if you know the numbers you're drawing out that can be a big plus. That will make everything a lot easier for future comps.
