Look SPX 15 Rocker Flex Issues on Rossi R21 Race Ski

Who mounted these? If it's a shop and you told them to center mount it sounds like they owe you.

What? They are race skis, they can't be can't be center mounted. I'm talking about the ski boot center mark not aligning with the ski's boot position mark. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Just a bit of a bump, I've spoken to a local shop and they couldn't figure it out either

Does the ski have a R21 Race Plate? Before you snap the toe piece into the AFD make sure that the plastic part with the different mm sizes that slides onto the long metal part is lined up and the two little circle tabs are in the holes on the heel. Push the actual heel forward all the way. This will ensure that the AFD lines up with the lines that show mm #s. You may need to bang it a few times to have the heel move forward. The plate has corresponding mm #s and you will match those. There is a range so once you decide which holes you want to use you can mount the binding to the plate and adjust the forward pressure to get your boot to fit. There is a channel on the forward pressure adjustment that should line up with the housing and this will ensure that you have the correct forward pressure.

Yup! R21 Plate (new one).

The first photo is the plate in red are the recommended mounting spots for a 295mm boot (also I drew where the boot falls on the marker). The green screw holes is where i can mount the binding so I am matching the marker. You can make out the ski's center mark.

The second photo is the diagram in the tech manual

The third photo shows how the metal bar should and shouldn't fit but no options in between...

The fourth photo is how the metal bar looks when mounted at 264-279mm Toe, 280-295mm Heel. In this case my boot sits perfectly center. Technically isn't the binding still within the 280-295mm range?

The fifth photo is my 6 1/2, 295mm boot as proof.

What's the correct way to mount this? If I do it by the book I won't end up matching the ski center. If I mount it at 264-279 I'm center but does it effect anything? Isn't the most important thing to be center in the boot or will this compromise some performance element of the Rockerflex metal strip?

Edit: I also assume the plates can't be moved if that's the issue...

So in the photo where you see the metal bar and its not lined up correctly like where it says OK in the tech manual, you need to un mount and push the heel forward which should slide the metal bar forward and then the AFD will line up correctly. When you mount the binding to the ski keep the toe piece off to the side and mount the heel only first. So you will place the front two screws of the heel in the second holes back on the rear plate. Then you can try and push the heel of the binding forward and back and see if the metal part slides. It should be all the way forward. Then place the AFD into the metal part and see if it lines up correctly. Next click the toe piece into the AFD and the rear toe screws should fall in the second hole forward on the plate.
You should be in the same holes on both plates. I think your issue is that the Heel hasnt been pushed all the way forward so the toe piece can reach the correct holes.

If the heel piece moves that still doesn't help his problem with the toe piece being too far forward making his mid sole mark more forward than the ski marking. if anything the toe portion of the plate would need to move towards the back of the ski. Not the heel portion of the plate being too far back.

I may be missing something but if your forward pressure is correct when you mount it with the green circled holes for the toe and where you did for the heel it will not create any issues with the turn radius of the ski. id be curious what your forward pressure and twist readings are to ensure its mounted correctly. numbers on the plate are kind of irrelevant so long as you get the mid sole marks to line up correctly.

It makes no difference where you mount the binding on the plate. If you are lucky and have medium sized feet you can put the binding forwards or backwards on the plate.

You're on the money here. This is what I'm thinking, I guess its no problem to mount the 295mm boot at the 264-279mm toe placement.. Does anyone know why this might have occurred though? Has anyone else experienced this with R21 plates and Look SPX bindings?

New development:

I just got a chance to play around with the bindings again and found that if the bindings are mounted at 295 295 front and back the rear binding isn't even in the "OK" range (its too far back).

you are doing something wrong. For a 295mm boot sole length, you need to use the second smallest set of holes and the heel screw set almost as wide as it will go. The most you can move the binding forward or back for this sole length is 1/2 of a centimetre. However, if you really want to go + or minus 1 cm you can probably use the wider setting (it starts at 296mm) and adjust the heel almost as short as it will go.

Really you should just stop overthinking this and put the binding on and go ski.
