A 110 brake on a 102 Ski?

So I purchased a pair of Backland 102's and went to my local reputable shop to get a binding. Ended up settling on a Griffon binding; however, they only had a 90 or a 110 brake. The tech visiually tested out the 110 as if the brake was upward if the boot was pressed in and advised it will work as it did not hang over as bad and stated I would literally have to be sideways in order for the brake to dig into crud etc. I do plan to maybe get onto a 109 or so width within the next couple of years. So I just wanted to ask you all what you think about this. My only other option was to bend out a 90 mm brake to make it fit, which I'm not the biggest fan of bending things to work. I just want to make sure everyone agrees with this. They will not even get to my skis until late Friday so I have time to back out if need be.

You want a max of about 10-15mm larger total brake width than the ski or else you risk the brakes catching on things. I like to go 10mm max above the ski width and you’re only 8mm total wider which is good. If they had a 100mm brake option, that would be perfect as they usually have a bit of play so it would have worked on a 102mm ski with no overhang at all but don’t sweat a 8mm larger brake. You’re good!

Cool Greg!!! Thanks you so much for the response. Always appreciated. As I looked at what the tech was doing, it did seem to make sense, but also wanted to check on here. He did say that a 115 brake absolutely would not work, so he must have been thinking the 10mm rule.

Yup....you will be plenty fine. 8mm is only 4mm on each side...so not that much at all!

It's good with the Marker Griffons as well cause the brakes flex in towards the back when you stand in them.

That is what I was seeing when the tech demonstrated as such. It appeared to be just fine and as said, once I really learn to be a good powder skier and big bowl rider; might go for something around the 109 width anyway. Thanks to all who responded to this thread. Greatly appreciated.
