Down SKI Jacket for the Low?
Looking at getting a sick puffer this year. What do y'all recommend
get a puffy/insulated layer and a waterproof shell. Way more worth it imo
Yeah skiing in a down jacket's just not the smartest.
What they said....dont use a down jacket....the down will get soaked and then you'll be cold as hell.
Use a waterproof shell and have the down as a layering tool. Currently I use a patagucci nanopuff. While it isn't quite as warm as down, it does a lot better in wet environments.

I agree with the posts above RE: layering as a better option.
But if you're set on down, Mountain Standard makes a very high quality down jacket for cheap since it's direct-to-consumer, and NeedEssentials does as well for even cheaper.
Also Armada came out with a Down parka that's an extremely good deal given how much 800FP down is in it.

Sierra has some sweet looking Jack Wolfskin down coats right now. I scored a TNF 800 fill a long time ago and it was a great decision. Looks like the Michelin man but if you want you can wear nothing but that shorts and flip flops out in the snow. Thing has lasted like 15 years or more and still looks new. Only wore it once to ski when it was like 2 degrees out but super nice to have when you want to walk to dog or run out to dump the trash in your shorts. Everyone should have a super fat puffy jacket IMO.

How cow yeah that armada jacket is cheap considering it's 800g down. I paid $200 for down 850g mittens. This jacket is a steal.
I agree with people above. Down is super nice for warmth. It is basically the warmest jacket you can buy. It is light and dries out quickly. The problem is the material used for the jackets is not waterproof. Once you fall in the snow, you will likely get wet. Consider having down underneath and a waterproof shell outer. Also did you consider the possibility of falling and catching your jacket on a rail or getting scraped by twigs in glades. POOF! FEATHERS EVERYWHEREEEE! Say goodbye expensive coat.

I just picked up this one for $170. Best jacket I found in the store as this one has a good thick, slightly heavy feel zip-out inner fleece.
