I was looking around a skis lately, and many seem to have different combinations of camber/rocker/flat sections. I understand the basics of how they affect the ski's performance, but was wondering how much of an impact it really makes.
Specifically, would a ski with a rocker/flat/rocker profile perform that much worse than rocker/camber/rocker or full camber (or for that matter, full rocker) in icy (think pennsylvania) conditions? Or would it be ok to go without the camber?
Also what kind of ski do you ride?

Camber vs. Rocker vs. Flat
Camber would be definitely better for Pennsylvania, but seeing as the length of runs and pitch aren't too crazy there, you could probably get away with anything. Camber though for better ice hold hands down. I've skied rocker/camber/rocker and camber only in 2 feet of snow. The difference is huge in my opinion. Not to say you can't do it; it would just be more difficult if you use skis intended for certain purposes in different settings.
FYI you can type more into google than "newschoolers."
For PA skiing...where you barely get powder and its ice all the time way worse than vermont and upstate NY...why would you get anything that wasn't cambered? Little rocker is fine but go with a full camber ski like blizzard regulators or something like that with a little tip / tail rocker.

The thing about rocker flat rocker is that they aren't trying to make a ski with a lot of edge grip. They are usually made to be surfy pow skis that are good for slashing and skidding turns. That is a really fun way to ski but when it gets icy you just have no bite whatsoever and it's sketchy AF.

agreed. i wouldnt even consider a flat ski in PA. it wont ruin your life but itd have absolutely no strong suits in PA conditions, like at all. for me this would be a no-brainer; camber!! maybe some early rise but w/e
