Need assistance with steeper downrails

I can hit flats regularly and I can usually hit a lower grade down but its pretty sketchy. Every time I try hitting a steeper downrail my backside ski hits first and I wash out. The feeling of leaning to the side just feels really unnatural to me. Is it something I just get the feel of overtime and I need to buck up and keep trying till I get it or is there something I can do to speed up learning?

I lean more foreword and keep a wider stance on steeper rails.

just hit normal rails over and over and then move to steeper when your comfortable

agreed. a wide stance helps a shit ton, and lean more forward than you'd expect

Yeah wide stance is huge. I used to coach some park stuff and always taught my beginners to think of having their feet more than shoulder width apart when they slid rails. That kind of forces you to lean forwards a bit more too.

that and make sure your skis are completely 90 to the rail


also try longer rails, thatll force you to lock on in a more committed way

also get good. just kidding, PRACTICE is the key. and watch good skiers, youll naturally pick up their habits

be sure to be looking ahead at the end of the rail or the landing. this is what got me a lot. I would look right were i was going. to start you can also think of it like this: you want you shoulders hips and feet to all be parallel with the rail. lastly, remember that if you fully commit you are actually less likely to fall. under comitting is almost a for sure fall.

Putting pressure on your front foot and widening your stance should do the trick. Make sure you arent sitting back on your butt as you pop up for the feature cause that will cause you to wash out and fall back
