Backflip Tips

Anyone have some good tips for my first backflip i attempted a few the other day but couldn't get around and kept hitting my tips.

do you have video of your attempts? if not describe what happened

general advice: pop, use your core and legs to engage the flip, and look around for your landing. do it on a medium ish jump that's poppy and that you like

i say this a lot and i dont mean it negatively: there are a ton of threads on the site about this, we've all wanted a million pointers for backies before we tried one. google site:newschoolers.com + backflip advice or something like that and read through all the stuff that comes up. lots of good (and bad) advice on here already

if you feel like while in the air youre trying to flail to bring your body around, then you're doing it wrong. My first season of doing backflips was perfectly comfortable, second season i had the issue of not spotting my landing early and now i finally got it again. if youre doing it on a small jump, you have to initiate with the knee/leg and not your head.

Straighten you body out in midair, dont tuck, look up to spot your landing while upside down, be relaxed too. That is at least what I do

Set with your hips and extend, look for your landing and pull it around. I do backies off everything and this works for jumps, hips, cliffs, etc...

Use your hands and arms to throw it. That motion with your upper body will drive your hips off the lip and put you in a position of spotting the landing. The first time I ever backflipped I over rotated massively, and I didn't get them dialed until I was just barely hucking backward off the lip. The idea of under rotating for me seems almost impossible.

Pop up, tuck super hard, and look back until you come around. Also the poppier the jump the better
